Zack Snyder Reacts To Margot Robbie-Starrer ‘Barbie’ Making Fun About ‘Justice League’ Cut

The summer of 2023 will be forever etched as one of the best ones in pop culture history due to the cinematic experience the audiences have had. There was a clash between Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’. Both films were panned by critics and audiences, and they proved to be money spinners.

‘Barbie’ starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling brought back audiences in theaters in throngs. It was a feminist satire comedy based on the iconic Barbie doll. The film contained many popular culture references. One of the references was about Zack Snyder’s cut of ‘Justice League’. It is one of the most divisive subjects in the subculture due to the drama that ensued. Now, the director reacts to the fun poked at the film as he promotes his new film, ‘Rebel Moon’.

‘Rebel Moon: Part One’ will be arriving on Netflix on December 22, 2023, after its limited theatrical release. Zack Snyder is helming the project. Recently, during an interview with Men’s Health, Zack talked about the joke in ‘Barbie’ about his cut of ‘Justice League’.

In ‘Barbie’, the joke comes at a very pivotal point. It is when Ryan Gosling’s Ken takes over Barbie Land by brainwashing other Kens that, in the real world, men are superior to women.

When all the Barbies meet at Weird Barbie’s place, America Ferrera supposedly gives a moving speech. After that, Alexandra Shipp chimes in to give an analogy of how she feels about being under patriarchy. Barbie says, “It’s like I’ve been in a dream where I was really invested in the ‘Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League.’”

During the interview, Zack Snyder said that Warner Bros. gave them a heads-up about the joke. He said, “They gave us a heads-up. And he said, ‘Hey, there’s a reference to ‘Justice League’ movie. It’s cool and whatever, I hope you guys understand, we think it’s awesome.” The director continued, “I thought ‘Barbie’ was great. And I think the joke is pretty good.”

Zack Snyder’s cut of ‘Justice League’ went through a tumultuous journey. The film that was released in 2017 was completely different from Zack’s film. Due to the differences, the fandom started a campaign, asking for #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. So, when the joke in ‘Barbie’ was made, the director was “A hundred percent” convinced that it was directed at the fandom.

However, Zack Snyder was unaware of the impact that the fandom and the film had on the subculture and that it would be featured in a major motion picture. It left him astonished.

Zack said, “The thing that I said to Debbie is—the thing that you need to take a second and think about is that your name is so seamlessly sewed together with a pop-culture phenomenon so big it can exist as a joke in a movie about Barbie.”

He continued, “That’s pretty insane. You just need to step back for a second and go like, ‘Whoa, what did we do? What happened? How is that a thing?’ ”
