Stephen Curry kept things respectful on the golf course with Barack Obama, opting not to engage in trash talk despite some encouragement from Michelle Obama, according to Ayesha Curry.
Ayesha revealed that the Golden State Warriors star avoided teasing the former president during their rounds together. “I don’t think you had it in you,” she said, joking about her husband.
Michelle Obama had previously encouraged Curry to fire back with playful banter during a 2016 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She told him to “trash talk back” to her husband and even suggested he “joke about his ears.”
Years later, Curry declined to confirm whether he followed that advice. “I’ll plead the fifth on whether or not I did,” he said. Over time, the Currys and the Obamas built a genuine friendship, sharing moments together in Martha’s Vineyard. Curry said those experiences helped create a lasting bond.
“We got to play golf with him in Martha’s Vineyard one year and spent some more time with both him and first lady Michelle Obama,” Curry said. “It never feels normal to say you’re friends with the president and the first lady, but it’s special, and it turned into a partnership with PLEZi.”

Ayesha Curry Says Family’s Response Led To PLEZi Partnership With Michelle Obama

The business partnership between the Currys and Michelle Obama developed from shared priorities around children’s health and nutrition. Ayesha said their decision to move forward with PLEZi came after observing their children’s reaction to the drink.
She said, “We kind of just left it in the fridge to see what they would do, we didn’t push it on them, and within a week and a half, they were like, ‘Can I have another PLEZi?’ and we both looked at each other and we were like, ‘No, they really, really like it,’ and so that was the deciding factor.”
She added that the collaboration aligned with Michelle Obama’s work on childhood nutrition and the Currys’ nonprofit efforts in Oakland.
Curry added, “There was just a synergy there, and also the foundational belief that kids should have quality nutrition in their lives, and so it really started there, and then from that point, it really wasn’t our decision anymore, it was our children’s.”
