Eminem and 50 Cent reunited courtside during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers at Little Caesars Arena on May 13. The longtime collaborators and close friends were seated together during the nationally televised playoff matchup in Detroit.

Arena cameras later captured the pair on the jumbotron during the first half, drawing a loud ovation from fans inside the arena. 50 Cent sported a blue cap with “Detroit” written across the front.

The appearance marked the first time Eminem and 50 Cent had been seen together courtside at an NBA game since the 2005 NBA Finals in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Also joining the artists were Eminem’s longtime manager Paul Rosenberg and producer Denaun Porter.

During the game, the rappers also posed for photos with Mary Sheffield. 50 Cent later shared the moment on social media and wrote, “Detroit mayor Mary Sheffield pulled up on us.”

The courtside reunion followed another memorable appearance involving the two artists in Detroit. In 2023, Eminem surprised fans by joining 50 Cent onstage during the Detroit stop of The Final Lap Tour at Pine Knob Music Theatre. The playoff series entered Game 5 tied 2 to 2, with the winner moving within one victory of the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Detroit Pistons in overtime after a disputed no-call at the end of regulation became a major talking point following the game. With the score tied late in the fourth quarter, Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell attempted a potential game-winner before Pistons defender Ausar Thompson blocked the shot and chased down the loose ball.

Thompson then lost possession after contact with Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen as time expired. Pistons players and coaches believed Allen should have been called for a foul, which would have sent Thompson to the free-throw line because Detroit was already in the bonus.

After the game, Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said, “(Allen) fouled Ausar. It’s clear. He trips him when he’s going for a loose ball. End of game situation, that’s tough.”

Crew chief Tony Brothers later explained the officials’ decision in the pool report and said, “During live play, both players were going for the ball, and there was incidental contact with the legs with no player having possession of the ball.”

Cleveland pulled away in overtime behind 30 points from James Harden. Pistons star Cade Cunningham finished with 39 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds as Detroit fell into a 3 to 2 series deficit heading into Game 6 in Cleveland.
