Imagine being one of the fortunate Swifties handpicked by Taylor herself to attend a private listening party at one of her various homes or rented locations. Yes, that unreal dream that I just typed out loud is exactly what she does, always defying the rules set by society. So it started back in 2014 with Tay’s first pop album ‘1989’s impending release. In the Secret Sessions, she picks out her favorites, they receive cryptic texts from her team, follow them blindly, probably sign an NDA or something because then they end up at one of Taylor’s homes. There she plays her unreleased songs for the fans, plays games, clicks pictures, and hands out her homemade cookies. Sounds like a dream come true and dreams indeed have come true.

Taylor Swift kicked off her Secret Sessions tradition with the launch of ‘1989; in 2014. Now this was the first-ever secret session so no one had any idea what they were getting set up for and that’s why it was just more fun. In the fall of 2014, right before her album release, she hosted intimate gatherings in her homes across New York, Los Angeles, Rhode Island, and even her mother’s mansion in Nashville. Each event welcomed 89 lucky fans, who were treated to more than just an album preview. Taylor, known for her personal touch, baked cookies (Chocolate Chip and Toasted Coconut) and hung out with the luckiest fans.

Imagine dancing around Taylor’s living room, enjoying freshly baked cookies, and chitchatting with the girl you’ve been making fan edits of for years, all while you get to listen to her brand new highly anticipated pop album ahead of its official release. This is what dreams are made of. Swifties at these test sessions passed with flying colors as no leaks of songs, or the personal stuff Taylor shared ever came about. This success of the ‘1989 Secret Sessions’ set the stage for many more of the future, turning it into a tradition.

Now the release of ‘Reputation’ was an earthquake in itself in the Taylor Swift Cinematic Universe. With everything that led to the dark and vicious aesthetic of this album, fans didn’t expect Tay to follow her tradition. To back their doubt, Swift broke her tradition of churning out a new album every two years because of the Kim-Kanye drama which sent her into hiding. The ‘Karma’ theorists are still out there decoding the orange outfits of Taylor somewhere. Back to the point, our girl Tay didn’t break the symphony of ‘Secret Sessions’ and hundreds of fans got to experience what a Taylor Swift hug felt like.

Ahead of ‘Reputation’s release in 2017, Taylor hand-picked 500 fans from around the world and flew them into her living rooms, hotel suites and rental houses, she wasn’t going to let housing come between her and Swifties. In these sessions, Tay not only previewed her album with fans but also had deep conversations with them about everything and nothing. Swift even shared insights into each song and revealed behind-the-scenes secrets. The bond between Taylor and her fans grew stronger with these meetings and so far, not a single rotten egg in her cookie basket.

    ‘Lover’ Secret Sessions

For her seventh studio album ‘Lover’ in 2019, Taylor continued the tradition with another round of Secret Sessions. This one was a stark contrast to the last one with all pink decor, merch and pastel hearts everywhere. But just like the last one, She invited a bunch of fans to her homes and played them her unreleased album. Fans were treated to heart-shaped treats, custom Lover merchandise, and a little personal therapy session with Taylor the therapist. But with all her pink M&Ms and there-to-be stolen soaps, this batch brought in some black sheep.

After the sessions, the entire tracklist of ‘Lover’ was leaked which must have put Tay in a discussion room with her team because so far, there’s been no news of another one. The last secret sessions were held three exclusives and seven in total albums ago.

With the last gathering gone wrong is unlikely Swift will invite a bunch of obsessed teens back into her home, but a girl can only hope. With April 19th fast approaching and Swift showing signs of being back in her break-uTop 10 Taylor Swift Breakup Songs And The Men They Are Dedicated Top songs era, the anticipation in fans is riding a high tide.
