    R.L.Stine is significantly changing this beloved book series ‘Goosebumps.’ The population children’s book series will see the author bringing more inclusive language. The phrases that are now politically and socially sensitively problematic will leave the text. However, the unrevised editions will still be sold in the bookstores.

    This is not the first time books have been changed to serve the current social climate. Some time ago, Roald Dahl’s estate and Penguin Publishers decided to erase problematic phrases. Author Salman Rushdie publicly criticized this act of censorship, calling it unnecessary and redundant.

    ‘Goosebumps’ Series From R. L.Stine To Include Inclusive Language

    Deadline reports that American author R.L.Stine is significantly revising his books from the ‘Goosebumps‘ series. According to The Times, there have been 100 corrections in R.L.Stine’s stories. For instance, in ‘Bride of the Living Dummy,’ the term “love tap” is now “magic spell.” Another example of these edits is from ‘The Curse of Camp Cold Lake‘ where a boys’ camp is no longer “a loud wolf-whistle” and is now “whistled loudly.”

    In Stine’s book ‘In Say Cheese and Die – Again!‘, schoolgirls had “crushes” on the headmaster. This sentence will not appear in the revised editions. ‘In Don’t Go to Sleep!‘, a boy called Anna Karenina “girl’s stuff .” It now reads as “not interesting.”

    R.L.Stine is not the only author re-editing his work. The Penguin Publishers and Roald Dahl Story Company are also making specific changes to Roald Dahl’s books. The decision from consulting with an organization called Inclusive Minds. The idea is to make reading these books an enjoyable readable experience for everyone with inclusive language.

    Some of the Roald Dahl books going through revisions are ‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory,’ ‘James And The Giant Peach,’ and ‘The Witches’. Words like “fat” and “enormous,” will no longer exist in his books. This decision caused a big stir, with Salman Rushdie lambasting this unnecessary need for censorship.

    Some characters in the Roald Dahl books are now gender-neutral. The Oompa Loompas, described as “small men” from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory‘ will now be “small people.” In ‘James and the Giant Peach, the term “Cloud-Men” is now “Cloud People.”
