Throughout most of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 2, something has been out of place. It has been a fierce battle, and the stakes have been great, and Wilson Fisk has never been more dangerous.
Yet, in all the confusion, there was one important thing that Matt Murdock was missing, and it made a big difference.
‘Born Again’ Season 2 Finally Balances Power With Purpose

Daredevil is more than a man who fights in the dark. He’s a man who fights in the light, too. It is that balance that made the character always interesting. And now, at last, the show revives it in a manner that really hits. Matt’s courtroom appearance, six episodes later, is as hard a blow as any. It is not merely a change of scene; it is a change of power.

When he comes in again, calm and composed, it makes you remember that this is where he is usually most dangerous. Not due to power, but due to dominance. The courtroom is the only place where truth has a chance of being heard in a city that is being controlled by fear and propaganda. And Matt knows it.
He employs each word, each break, each bit of attention to call into question Fisk’s story in the eyes of the whole city. It is actually gratifying in another fashion than the fights. It is tense, but not so loud, just more calculated. You are not waiting for somebody to throw a punch. You are waiting for someone to slip and reveal something. And it is the first time this season that Matt seems to be on equal footing once again.

What this shift prepares next is what makes it so effective. The unavoidable clash between Daredevil and Fisk is not only leading to another violent confrontation, but it is also leading to a collision of ideologies. On one hand, there is the control of the city by Fisk through fear and power.

On the other hand, there is Matt’s effort to break that control in front of the whole world. It is not only about the physical victor. It is a matter of what the city believes. The trial of Karen Page turns out to be more than a subplot; it is the arena where everything begins to break open.
The cameras, the audience, the pressure, all these push Fisk into a position that he cannot completely control. And there the interesting part comes in. Whatever the explosiveness of the climax may be, and it will be, this reversion to the courtroom re-establishes the story. It reminds you that Daredevil’s greatest strength isn’t just surviving the night. It’s showing that the system can still be challenged and perhaps even conquered.
