‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ Season 3 is doing something very unusual for a superhero series: They are openly admitting that they got a villain wrong and that they are going to try again.
The series’ fans had been left scratching their heads after the ending of season 2, when Heather Glenn donned Muse’s bloody mask. According to showrunner Dario Scardapane, that’s exactly the point, because the creative team felt the original version of Muse never reached its full potential.
‘Born Again’ Found A Smarter Way To Use Muse

Muse was the perfect candidate to be made one of the MCU’s most unsettling villains. The serial killer artist definitely added a creepy vibe to the series, but in season 1, he was so busy with his plot that he hardly had time to create a memorable mark before getting the chop. Now, the show appears to be set on course to correct that error in a much more psychological fashion.

In season 1, Muse tried to kill Heather Glenn before she killed him. Although she survived physically, season 2 made it clear that the trauma never really left her. That emotional aftermath is now the focus of the narrative. ‘Born Again’ is not just a rehash of the original ‘Daredevil’; it’s something new. It shows a Muse created from fear, guilt, and psychological breakdown.
As Scardapane says, this idea was born from a process of exploration, and what happens when someone “puts on” their trauma rather than healing from it. “ It seems supernatural if you watch the way it’s progressing, and now we have a Muse that isn’t just dropped in. Now you have the character development of, why would she become this thing?” he told EW.
‘Born Again’ Season 3 Could Push Marvel Into New Territory

The twist also helps to distance it from the Marvel Comics canon. Heather Glenn never became Muse in the source material, although a female version of the villain did eventually emerge in the comics through Morgan Whittier.

Meanwhile, season 3 is already looking big, aside from Heather’s transformation. The long-awaited Defenders reunion will also arrive, featuring Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist.
However, despite all of those big wins, it could be Heather’s fall and transformation into Muse that sticks in people’s minds. For the first time in a while, Marvel is letting one of its characters truly shatter on-screen.
