Marvel Accuses ‘X-Men ’97’ Creator Beau DeMayo Of Sexual Assault After His Comments About Fallout With Production House

A new turn of events hit Marvel Studios drama behind the scenes with ‘X-Men ’97 when showrunner Beau DeMayo revealed that he no longer held a credit on the upcoming second season of the hit Disney+ series.

DeMayo, who was mysteriously let go by Marvel five months ago, took to social media on Thursday to air his grievances against the company, exposing an allegedly “problematic pattern” during his time working for the giant in the entertainment industry. Marvel had remained tight-lipped on his dismissal for a while, but has responded with allegations of sexual assault.

The mystery surrounding Marvel Studios’ decision to part ways with ‘X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo finally reached the surface on both sides after months since the firing, which happened in March 2024.

DeMayo had served as head writer for the highly anticipated revival of the beloved animated series on Disney+, and he was let go after he had finished working on the first two seasons for the show.

DeMayo broke silence on the matter in an X post on Thursday, to shed some light on his side of the story. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work on the project, adding that it was a “dream come true”.

He also applauded the support from fans. However, he revealed that Marvel had removed him from the credits for the second season. He claimed it is due to a social media post.

On June 13, #Marvel sent a letter notifying me that they’d stripped my Season 2 credits due to the post,” DeMayo wrote, referring to an image he shared of himself as a shirtless Cyclops. He continued to describe the move as part of a “troubling pattern” he experienced during his time on ‘X-Men ’97‘ and the upcoming ‘Blade‘ movie.

Responding to the claims via a statement through ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, Marvel Studios tried to shed light on DeMayo’s termination by citing that it came after an internal investigation that returned with “egregious” findings.

Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel,” it read.

Although Marvel did not elaborate on details, sources close to the situation confirmed that it was due to sexual misconduct allegations. Sources have claimed that DeMayo sent nude photos of himself in “hero” poses to some young male staffers working on ‘X-Men 97’, claiming that he sent them to use as “they could be used as “inspiration”.

He also allegedly groped an assistant multiple times and emotionally and physically abused other staffers. It has been stated that right after DeMayo’s exit, settlement terms allegedly reached between the two parties included a part related to his behavior on social media, in which DeMayo was accused of violating by removing his credit for the second season of ‘X-Men ’97‘.

After Marvel’s announcement was made public, DeMayo took to social media and responded with, “the truth will come out.” He claimed Marvel was trying to “mislead” with supposed contract violations over the tweets and referred to it as “tragic but unsurprising.

In a retweet to his initial post, he said, “This is Disney-Marvel’s standard playbook. Legal letters as well as other items to prove their long-standing pattern to follow. It’s about finding a safe outlet.” The fallout from DeMayo’s firing is far from over as the drama continues to unfold.
