Drax the Destroyer will make his final appearance in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘. The role of Drax was Dave Bautista’s breakthrough performance, exhibiting his exceptional deadpan humorous delivery that contrasted well with his bulky stature, which he claims is now too tough to maintain as he gets older.
Although we regret seeing Dave take off Drax’s shoes, he has a reason for doing so. What led Dave to leave the MCU? In forthcoming Marvel films, who will portray Drax?

Why Is Dave Bautista Leaving Marvel?
If you’ve been following Dave Bautista’s career, you would know that he is trying to cement himself as a real actor. Many people have theorized that this is the reason he is bidding Drax farewell. Dave says he is “relieved” to be leaving the MCU as Drax, adding that “It wasn’t all pleasant.”
“I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him,” Bautista declared in a GQ story, adding, “But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy — it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.” During the ‘Ellen‘ show, Bautista added that the movies “came full circle” and that he is prepared to “step aside” from Marvel.
Speaking on the ‘Tonight Show‘, Batista stated, “I constantly relate it to the way I ended my wrestling career. I ended it on a storybook note and I would never go back and tarnish that. And it’s the same with this, with Drax I just got to end it in the perfect way and I would never sign up for another job as Drax just to get a paycheck, it would tarnish that and I won’t do it.”

Who Will Replace Bautista As Drax In The MCU?
It is not yet known if Dave Bautista’s character will be killed off or replaced. Both scenarios are possible, but Marvel would be foolish to replace Drax even though the actor has stated that he’d be fine with someone else taking up the part after him. The ensemble cast of the Guardians movie, each of whom contributes something special to the film’s wacky tone, is largely responsible for the franchise’s popularity.
The MCU has avoided significant recasts since its initial development, which is the fundamental argument against casting Drax again. Characters from the MCU are either still played by their original stars or are removed from the story. It would be strange to alter that pattern right now. Furthermore, there are also reports of Bradley Cooper’s Rocket exiting from the ‘GOTG‘ franchise, and previously Zoe Saldana spoke about how she wouldn’t mind if her character is written out of the story. The ‘GOTG 3‘ might just be the last film with our favorite cast. Or not. All we can do for now is wait and watch.
The release date for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ is set for May 5, 2023.
