In the 2018 movie ‘Deadpool‘, Josh Brolin brought to life the gruff and grim mutant Nathan Summers aka Cable. Brolin’s performance as Cable became one of the highlights of ‘Deadpool 2‘ aside from Ryan Reynolds reprising his role, so much so that the fans expected Cable’s return in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine‘.
However the first trailer drop of the movie gave away multiple ester eggs and references, but two of the most iconic heroes seemed missing from it. While Hugh Jackman‘s most-talked-about appearance has overshadowed the floating question of why Cable is missing from the trailer.
Fans Question Cable’s Absence From ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’
The first trailer of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ starts with the gang celebrating Wade Wilson’s birthday. While all of the gang was present including Blind A, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead along with his wife Vanessa, two of the most iconic characters were missing. Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz seemed confident that they would be reprising their roles in a third Deadpool project. There were early speculations as well that Domino and Cable will reprise in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine‘, however, the trailer speaks otherwise.
At the end of ‘Deadpool 2‘, Cable fails to return to his original timeline. Instead of using the time-travel device to return home, Cable uses it to save Deadpool’s life. Remaining in the past, making sure his enemy Apocalypse does not appear in the future with the motive of protecting his wife and daughter. In the post-credit scene, Deadpool repairs the time machine, but might not be able to bring him back.

Josh Brolin Talks About ‘Deadpool 3’
During an interview with Collider, Josh Brolin jokingly stated that he would not reprise his role as Cable because Ryan Reynolds does not like him. Upon asking, “Are you in Deadpool 3, and if not, why?”, Brolin replied, “No. I don’t know. Because Ryan [Reynolds] doesn’t like me?”
The actor previously revealed that he signed a contract to appear in four films as Cable, but this deal was when the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Deadpool’ films were under Fox. However, after the acquisition, these terms might be negotiated. Additionally, Brolin also appeared as Marvel’s once-feared villain Thanos. Hence to keep both the characters apart, Deadpool and Wolverine might have not included Cable, instead focusing more on Merc with a Mouth and the multiverse storyline.
