Dwayne Johnson Set To Play Mark Kerr In His Biopic ‘The Smashing Machine’

With the SAG-AFTRA strikes officially wrapped up in November, many actors and stars are returning to their regular routines and resuming the stalled projects. One among these stars is WWE legend Dwayne Johnson, popularly known as The Rock.

After a brief hiatus in the project, Johnson is now all set to take on the role of MMA fighter Mark Kerr in the upcoming A24 biopic, ‘The Smashing Machine‘. The movie, directed and produced by Benny Safdie, narrates Kerr’s struggles and addiction in 2000.

The movie will portray Kerr’s time during the no-holds-barred era of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The official statement from the movie’s production team has set fans excited for the upcoming movie with one champion portraying another on screen.

Apart from the shooting of ‘The Smashing Machine‘, Johnson is looking at a packed schedule with some other prior commitments to projects. He is slated to begin or resume shooting for ‘Fast X: Part 2‘ and ‘Red Notice 2‘. It is also likely that the WWE star may miss the WrestleMania 40 because of the hectic schedule.

The Rock had also in the past hinted at his appearance at next year’s Showcase of Immortals and a potential match against cousin Roman Reigns at this year’s event. The plans, however, fell through at the last minute.

He was seen on-screen last a few months ago when he interrupted and laid out Austin Theory on SmackDown. Jey Uso, who has been in the limelight after leaving the Bloodline on SmackDown, said he is excited for the “dream match between The Rock and Roman Reigns“.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, Jey said that Johnson’s win in the match would be an important victory for their family, the Bloodline. He asserted that he is confident that no one can dethrone The Tribal Chief from his position.

Though the direction points at a WrestleMania 39 rematch between Reigns and Cody, fans are intrigued about whether or not The Rock will return to the ring for another match.
