The Bond role always turns casting into a debate. Every new name gets measured against the same questions: does he have the look, the style, the screen presence, and the edge to carry 007 into a new era?
Callum Turner’s name has been part of that conversation for a while now. There are still no confirmations, and several strong contenders remain in the race, but George Clooney may have just fanned Turner’s chances with one brief reaction.
George Clooney Gives Callum Turner His Nod Of Approval For ‘Bond’ Role

The conversation took place during Clooney’s appearance on Soundtracking Extra with Edith Bowman, where he joined Adam Sandler. While speaking about the wider Bond conversation, Edith Bowman brought up Callum Turner as a possible new 007, and Clooney responded without thinking twice. He said, “I like that Callum boy.”
Of course, the comment was not a confirmation, and Clooney has no official role in the casting process. Still, it’s quite a big deal when a star like Clooney is teasing a possibility. Besides, Clooney has already worked with Turner on ‘The Boys in the Boat.’ So, that already gave Clooney a close view of his screen presence, control, and leading-man potential.

Besides Clooney, many believe Turner’s Bond appeal begins with his current standing in the industry. He is recognizable, but not overexposed. He has worked consistently for the last decade, yet he has not had one huge breakout role. That keeps him open to lead a franchise like Bond. Bond needs an actor audiences can believe in quickly, but the role also benefits from someone with room for reinvention. Turner has enough experience to seem ready.
Besides, Callum Turner also fits several Bond basics. He is 6 feet tall, black-haired, sharp-featured, and fits the OG Bond image in a suit. More importantly, he has a bit of grit. Turner grew up on a London council estate, and that gives him a working-class background and connects him to the tougher edge brought by Sean Connery and Daniel Craig.
However, Turner has not officially commented on the latest rumors. When his name was already being discussed in January 2024, he said, “Bond isn’t something I’ve thought about very much”. He added, “I’m a bit of a racehorse. I focus intensely on what’s in front of me and then go back to the stables and go back to sleep.”
Jacob Elordi’s Rise Might Harm Callum Turner’s ‘Bond’ Chances

While Callum Turner has gained fresh attention after George Clooney’s approving comment, the wider Bond race has another name drawing serious interest: Jacob Elordi. His appeal comes from a different angle. Turner brings experience, grit, and a connection to Clooney, but Elordi may offer something Amazon MGM could value even more right now: time.

Much of the recent Bond speculation around Elordi has focused on his age. At 28, he could lead the franchise for the next decade if Amazon MGM wants a long-term 007 rather than another short-cycle casting choice. Marina Hyde discussed this on The Rest is Entertainment podcast and explained why producers may see Elordi as a strong candidate for the role.
Hyde said, “He’s 28. So, he could easily do a good 10 years, which is what they really want, right? They want somebody who’s going to own this for a generation.” Amazon MGM likely wants the next Bond to carry multiple films and help define a new era without forcing another reboot too soon.
Now, we can just wait and watch which way Amazon MGM goes!
