In the past few months, the ‘Scream franchise has undergone a series of changes and deteriorations, making the future of the films a little blurry. With the exit of two cast members and the directors, it is now uncertain if the franchise will continue and if yes, how.

First of all, Melissa Barrera was fired from the franchise over her support for Palestine during the genocidal war against Israel. Spyglass reported that Melissa was being fired for being ‘antisemitic’ because she referred to the Israel-Palestine war as ‘genocide’.

A representative spoke on behalf of Spyglass media and said, “We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

In response to that, Melissa wrote on social media: “First and foremost I condemn antisemitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hate and prejudice of any kind against any group of people.” Further she wrote: “I pray day and night for no more deaths, for no more violence, and for peaceful co-existence. I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom. Silence is not an option for me.”

Soon after, Jenna Ortega left after Melissa’s firing, leaving the franchise in trouble over two of its actors leaving.

Afterwards, director Christopher Landon too walked away from the film, leaving fans with uncertain expectations for the film’s seventh entry.

Now that the franchise is in shatters, Neve Campbell has stepped in to make on offer to feature in the next film.

Neve Campbell did not appear in the sixth movie in the franchise, due to disputes over how much she was getting paid. Her last appearance was in 2022’s fifth film, but she has now voiced her willingness to come back to the franchise if the pay is well.

Talking about the series falling apart she said to IndieWire, “It’s sad to me that they’re struggling at the moment. I would imagine that the people at the top are spinning a little bit, trying to make the right decision. I think I would imagine people want to do the right thing.

She then added, “I love this franchise I love it for all the people who’ve been involved and even the newer cast. I would hope it doesn’t fall apart.”

When asked if she would like to return to reprise her role she said, “Given the right circumstances? Yes. I made a statement several years ago, and it was the reason that I didn’t do the film at the time, and I just really felt the need to stand up and say that I don’t believe I would’ve been treated that way had I been a man carrying a franchise for 25 years, and that still stands. So if they were to choose to come back to me, that would continue to be my takeaway. We’ll see.”
