Ryan Gosling may have fully embraced the Kenergy for ‘Barbie‘, but even Ken had his limits. The actor threw himself into Greta Gerwig’s bright pink world and delivered one of the film’s most talked-about performances.
But behind all that polished doll-like perfection, Gosling has now revealed that ‘Barbie‘ had a dedicated “shave room” for the Kens. But he never got in it.
Ryan Gosling Reveals He Avoided The Barbie ‘Shave Room’

During an interview with BBC Radio One, the ‘Project Hail Mary‘ actor revealed that he did not shave his legs for the movie. He said, “I didn’t even shave my legs.” ‘Barbie‘ already had plenty of behind-the-scenes lore about the Kens shaving and waxing for their roles.
Since Kens are dolls and dolls do not have body hair, the actors had to look the part. Gosling added another wild layer to that story when he confirmed that the production even had a dedicated space for shaving.
He revealed, “There was a shave room on Barbie that I never went in.” Gosling did not explain whether he shaved somewhere else, waxed, or simply avoided the process altogether. But he made one thing very clear: he stayed away from that room.
The Kens’ Behind-The-Scenes Prep Was Not As Glamorous As ‘Barbie’ Land

Ryan Gosling’s revelation about the “shave room on Barbie” just added to the already funny, slightly chaotic stories about the Kens preparing for ‘Barbie‘. Simu Liu previously spoke about the struggles of waxing to play Ken, and he revealed that Kingsley Ben-Adir was the only Ken who did not wax.

If some Kens waxed and others shaved, then the room may have seen plenty of action during production. Gosling did not name exactly who used it, but he did describe the sounds it made. As the interviewer mentioned some of his co-stars who may have had to go inside, Gosling painted a dramatic picture of what it was like from the hallway.
He said, “Oh my god, you could hear the screaming down the hall; it was like a torture chamber. It was just like howling.” Given how theatrical the Kens were in the film, the image of actors howling from a shave room almost feels like it belongs in ‘Barbie‘ Land itself.
Gosling continued to joke about how strongly he avoided the space. He said, “I went the other way. It’s like – I just never – I never went in the shave room. The Shave Room, what a name, and the sounds that came out of it, I’ll never unhear.”
‘Barbie‘ already gave fans dance numbers, dream houses, beach battles, and Ken’s existential crisis. Now, thanks to Gosling, it also has one more piece of lore!
