With Christmas just weeks away and the holiday season almost here, musician Brenda Lee‘s timeless classic ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree‘ has claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The development has come after 65 years since its debut in 1958.
The benchmark comes as a significant addition to Lee’s career as a musician. It has also broken records as it surpassed the holiday chart-toppers like ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You‘ by Mariah Carey.

78-year-old Lee has also become the oldest woman to have topped the Hot 100. The record-holders before her included renowned artists including Cher for ‘Believe‘ at 52, and Carey for ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You‘ at 53.
Lee has had an illustrious career in the music industry. She recorded her first hit at the mere age of 13 years old. The song was written by Johnny Marks. With this record, she has marked her third No. 1 song. Her first No. 1 was the 1960 single ‘I’m Sorry‘.
Lee also expressed gratitude and joy about her achievement. “I cannot believe that ‘Rockin’’ has hit No. 1 65 years after it was released; this is just so special! Thank you to the team at UMG/UMe who worked so hard to celebrate the song’s anniversary this year. But most importantly, thank you to the fans who keep listening,” the honed musician said.

Asserting that the popularity of the singing has always brought joy to her, Lee further said, “The song came out when I was a young teenager and now to know that it has resonated with multiple generations and continues to resonate — it is one of the best gifts I have ever received. Keep on Rockin’ and Merry Christmas!”
To celebrate the song’s milestone, Lee released its first-ever music video last month. The video also featured Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood.
She also shared the EP, ‘A Rockin’ Christmas with Brenda Lee‘, in November. The EP had several holiday favorites including ‘Santa Claus Is Coming to Town‘, ‘Jingle Bell Rock‘, ‘A Marshmallow World‘, and a reimagined version of ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree‘ by Filous.
