Musicians Ashanti and Nelly are about to welcome their first child together after staying apart for almost a decade, a source told People. After reconciling after a long time, the Y2K power couple is excited about Ashanti’s pregnancy.
“Nelly and Ashanti are welcoming their first baby together,” a source told People, emphasizing that the couple looks forward to starting a new family. While this will be Ashanti’s first child, Nelly has two children with his ex-wife Channetta Valentine.
Ashanti And Nelly’s On-And-Off Relationship
Ashanti and Nelly’s relationship has seen a lot of ups and downs, with the couple navigating through their troubled relationship from 2003 to 2013. Their recent reunion, which they announced in September 2023, had left their fans surprised.
Sources have said that though the couple has faced rough times, they are currently trying to live the present moment the best they can.
According to the US Weekly, Ashanti “never would’ve imagined reconciling” with her ex, but “they’re enjoying spending time together.” Nelly’s own declaration that her reconciliation with her ex “surprised both of us” also echoes something similar.
Ashanti had opened up about the betrayal she felt in the aftermath of her separation from Nelly in a 2015 interview. “You just have to grow. You have to grow up. You have to accept responsibility for the things that you do,” she had said.

Nelly Says Is Surprised By Their “Spontaneous” Reunion

Nelly meanwhile said that the spontaneity of his relationship with Ashanti keeps him on his toes. Speaking on ‘Boss Moves With Rasheeda‘, he said “We cool again,” as he smiled during a recent interview in September. “It wasn’t anything that was like, I don’t think, planned,” he said, adding, “Sometimes being separate, you can understand one another more.”
The first signs that the couple had rekindled their relationship after the last breakup came when Ashanti walked the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet with a purse that had a photo of their faces. “We’re in a great place…I think it’s pretty obvious. Yeah, we’re together,” Ashanti had said.
The couple made their relationship Instagram official in October as Nelly wished Ashanti a happy birthday in a social media post. He said she is “such a beautiful, incredible person inside and out“, as he posted pictures of them together.
As the couple seems to have overcome the turbulence in their relationship, fans are excited to see how the entry of a child into their lives will help their relationship to bloom further.
