‘Griselda’: Release Date
Sophia Vergara ended her role as Gloria Pritchett, the over-protective mother and the most adored character of ‘Modern Family‘ in 2020. And now Vergara has taken up a challenging role on Netflix’s ‘Griselda‘, presented by the ‘Narcos’ team. The ‘Modern Family’ alum will debut in a dramatic turn as Griselda Blanco, the Colombian Godmother who concocted one of the most profitable cartels in history.
The series is helmed by creators and executive producers of ‘Narcos’ and ‘Narcos: Mexico’ and will release on January 25 along with Sophia Vergara serving as the executive producer for Griselda.
The Stellar Cast
The upcoming American drama series about the notorious cocaine trafficker will star Sophia Vergara in the lead as Griselda Blanco. Joining her are Alberto Guerra from ‘Narcos: Mexico’, who will play the role of Dario Sepúlveda, Christian Tappan as Arturo Mesa, and Martín Rodríguez as Rivi Ayala. Joining the ensemble are ‘The Blacklist’ actress Juliana Aidén Martinez as June Hawkins, Vanessa Ferlito as Carmen Gutiérrez, Orlando Pineda and Jose Velazquez as Dixon Trujillo Blanco and Uber Trujillo Blanco, respectively.

‘Griselda’: Plot Details
The crime drama limited series, ‘Griselda’ is inspired by the life of the ambitious Colombian drug trafficker Griselda Blanco, the woman who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. Griselda Blanco’s story has been told in numerous films and TV shows earlier, including the 2018 Lifetime biopic ‘Cocaine Godmother’, and the 2006 documentary film ‘Cocaine Cowboys’.
The Netflix description reads, “Griselda is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Colombian Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. In 1970s-80s Miami, Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as the Godmother.”
