    11-Year-Old Texas School Shooting Survivor Miah Cerrillo Recounts Playing Dead In Classmate’s Blood

    On Tuesday, May 24, a shocking and horrific incident happened in Texas, Uvulade. An 18-year-old man shot 19 students and two teachers in an elementary school. This was a very sad day for America. The tragedy has cost many innocent lives. Miah Cerrillo, an 11-year-old girl witnessed the tragedy as she was one of the students. She survived by playing dead.

    Many celebrities raised their voices regarding this heinous incident and spoke about gun violence. Few high-profile personalities visited Uvulade to pay their respects, including Meghan Markle and Matthew McConaughey. Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was spotted in Texas placing white roses on the graves of those who lost their lives.

    Miah Cerrillo, a survivor of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas shared her story of survival with CNN. For her, a split-second choice may have saved or ended her life in the horrible tragedy. The 11-year-old student recalled the morning of May 24 in her school. Suddenly an 18-year-old gunman opened fire in her classroom. According to her, the gunman targetted her 4th-grade class. It cost the lives of Irma Garcia and  Eva Mireles, along with many of her friends.

    The offender then moved to an adjoining classroom. While he was next door, Miah and her friend managed to grab their teacher’s cell phone to call 911. They told the dispatcher “Please come … we’re in trouble.” Miah was afraid that he might return so she took blood from a slain classmate and rubbed it on herself to play dead. The grade schooler recalled lying on the floor for hours before she was rescued. CNN revealed that she was taken to the hospital for the treatment of the bullet fragment wounds.

    The disheartening incident has caused heartbreaks in many families. The May 25 press conference featured the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Steve McCraw. He said that the gunman bought a semiautomatic rifle from a sporting goods store on March 17. His purchases include over 375 rounds of ammunition on March 18. McCraw confirmed that after a couple of days he returned to the same store to buy another semiautomatic rifle.

    The offender was shot and killed at the scene by law enforcement.
