One of the billionaires and successful entrepreneurs, Elon Musk has ensued a string of chaotic decisions. Since he acquired Twitter, he has been vying for the most radical decisions to revamp the micro-blogging site. To execute his vision for Twitter 2.0, he went to the extent of firing employees in mass layoffs due to a loss of $4 million every day as advertisers started to pull out. Then, many employees resigned from the platform after an ultimatum. Now, after a poll, he has reinstated former US President Donald Trump’s Twitter account.
In 2021, Twitter deactivated the account of one of the most influential figures. Due to the Capitol riots that took place after Joe Biden became the president, the platform banned Trump from the platform permanently. But, now that the CEO of the platform has changed, in a move where he took the public mandate, he is welcoming the most controversial figure back on the platform.

“The People Have Spoken”: Elon Musk Restores Trump’s Twitter
On January 6th, 2021, after the election results, many Trump supporters vandalized the US Capitol in one of history’s most horrifying events. After the chaos that followed, the company suspended his account permanently citing “the risk of further incitement of violence”. Before that, the company banned his account for 12 hours when he criticized Mike Pence following the riots. After the ban, he tried to tweet via his campaign account, but the company banned that account too.

When Musk completed his acquisition of the platform, he said that Twitter will form a “moderation council” that will review accounts that are to be reinstated. Looking at the current events, it was no surprise that he took a mere Twitter poll to decide whether the former US President should be reinstated or not. On Friday, he asked Twitter users if they should restore his account. 52% of users agreed to do so and 48% of users disagreed.
The people have spoken.

15 million people participated in the poll to decide. Consequently, Musk tweeted, “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated”. He added, “Vox Populi, Vox Dei”, which means “the voice of the people is the voice of the god.” To this, Trump reacted on Truth Social, “Vote now with positivity, but don’t worry, we aren’t going anywhere. Truth Social is special”. He founded another app called ‘Truth Social’ and continued to be on that after Twitter ban. This restoration came after his announcement to rerun for the presidential candidacy.

Donald Trump Praised Elon’s Acquisition Of The Platform
When the Tesla owner was in the process of buying the platform for a whopping amount of $44 billion, he said that he will bring back Trump. He said, “I do think that it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice … So I guess the answer is I would reverse the permaban.”
When press asked if he will restore Trump’s account during mid term election, he had something different to say. The SpaceX owner said, “Twitter will not allow anyone who was de-platformed for violating Twitter rules back on the platform until we have a clear process for doing so, which will take at least a few more weeks.” Alas! Donald is back on the platform after a random poll.
However, when asked about Musk’s buy, Trump had nothing but praises for him! He said, “I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country.”
He continued, “Twitter must now work hard to rid itself of all of the bots and fake accounts that have hurt it so badly. It will be much smaller, but better. I LOVE TRUTH!”
