Elon Musk Tries To Convince William Shatner Over Twitter’s Subscription Plan

Elon Musk is struggling to make a profit from Twitter ever since he took over the company last year for $44 billion. Right after the acquisition, Musk introduced Twitter Blue. It’s basically a monthly subscription plan for users to retain their blue tick verified badge on the platform.

Star Trek‘ actor William Shatner is not really happy with this change as the company announced that they will get rid of all the legacy badges in April. In response, Musk tried to convince him about it. So let’s find out in detail what Shatner and Musk said to each other about this issue.

Elon Musk introduced a verification plan for Twitter last year, which means that users and organizations will have to pay a monthly fee to retain or get the blue tick verification badge.

This is clearly not sitting well with everyone and one of them is the ‘Star Trek‘ actor William Shatner. Shatner took to Twitter to ask Musk about the company’s decision to end legacy badges from April.

Hey @elonmusk what’s this about blue checks going away unless we pay Twitter? I’ve been here for 15 years giving my [clock emoji] & witty thoughts all for bupkis. Now you’re telling me that I have to pay for something you gave me for free? What is this – the Colombia Records & Tape Club?“, he wrote.

On Sunday, the South African billionaire took to Twitter to respond to Shatner’s query. “It’s more about treating everyone equally,” he tweeted. “There shouldn’t be a different standard for celebrities imo.”

Earlier, novelist Stephen King was irked by this decision to charge for the verified badge. “Fuck that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron.” Musk then said that the platform “cannot rely entirely on advertisers.”

From April, users will have to pay $8 per month through the website and $11 a month through the in-app payment on iOS and Android to retain the badge.
