Joe Alwyn Gives First Ever Tell All Interview After Taylor Swift Split, Weighs In On The Breakup And ‘Tortured Poets Department’

A year after his highly publicized breakup with Taylor Swift, Joe Alwyn is finally letting his guard down as he appears in his first-ever interview after the split, giving his side of the breakup and letting fans know what the actor has been up to after a tumultuous relationship of six years.

Appearing on the cover as ‘London Boy’, a reference to a Taylor Swift song, Alwyn also spoke about his thoughts on Taylor’s new album, how he feels about the public and media scrutiny that has followed him post-split, and who he’s seeing right now. Here’s everything Joe Alwyn revealed in the interview.

Though Taylor Swift has released several songs about her breakup with Joe Alwyn, fans have been waiting to hear his side of the story amidst major backlash the actor has revealed, thanks to certain details Swift released in her music.

Alwyn, known for keeping his private life private however, sat down for his first-ever interview with The Sunday Times Style, detailing on the breakup and his thoughts on Swift’s new album.

When asked if he has given the album a listen, Alwyn responded, “In thinking on what I was going to say, I would think and hope that anyone and everyone can empathise,” he begins, before adding, “I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathise and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”

He is referring, of course, to the severe backlash he received post the split, mostly because of certain lyrics Swift wrote, topped off with some indirect signals that gave fans false narratives of what must have gone on in the breakup.

Alwyn continues, “So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition.” Addressing the several songs Taylor has written about their relationship, he says, “There is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.”

Though Swift has indirectly bashed her past relationship by talking about ‘wasting’ years locking herself in, Alwyn has a completely different take on it. Talking about how they mutually decided to keep things private he said, “As everyone knows, we together both of us, mutually decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private. It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now,” before adding, “And, look, this is also a little over a year ago now and I feel fortunate to be in a really great place in my life, professionally and personally. I feel really good.”

When asked about his current dating life and if he’s seeing someone he adds, “I’m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to just open the door to things like that right now.”

As for the haters, Alwyn is numb to the online criticism and says, “I try and live in reality and away from the kind of online noise of Twitter. I try and dial that volume down. I was obviously made aware of it and think that mistreating anyone, whether it’s in person or behind the anonymity of a keyboard, is shameful.”

Lastly, there were certain rumours going around of him being a regular customer at Vaux Hall’s bar ‘The Black Dog’, something that started with Swift writing a song about it and then the bar owners commodifying it into their business and adding that Alwyn is a regular customer at their place. Addressing these rumors, the actor grinned and said, “I’ve never been to Vaux-hall.”
