Brace yourselves because you are about to see the infamous slug-like gangsters in a way you have never seen them before! While the Disney+ series ‘The Mandalorian‘ mastered the art of intimate, Western-style shootouts, ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu‘ has decided to take advantage of the huge budget allocated to it, promising the viewers what they have never seen before in the ‘Star Wars‘ universe—a “crazy percussive” battle of Hutts. The creator Jon Favreau and his team spent years mastering the complex physics of these massive creatures, trying to ensure that their live-action combat feels realistic.
In the center of the upcoming Star Wars spectacle stands Rotta the Hutt, who appeared for the first time on ‘The Clone Wars‘ cartoon as the son of the notorious gangster Jabba the Hutt. In terms of its scale, it will be an entirely different experience, nothing close to the slow and sedated underworld you have seen in the television series.
Lucasfilm’s Upgraded Star Wars Budget, Says Jon Favreau

Discussing the making of ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu,’ its creator Jon Favreau revealed that moving from the TV format to cinema screens allowed the company to go further and achieve things not possible for the previous Star Wars series.
In particular, the bigger movie budget enabled them to develop the physics of the Hutts’ battle scenes in great detail.
“We had almost three years. We got to figure out what the physics of a Hutt would be in battle… to have you know all that stuff that never did. And same thing with Zeb, to be able to really explore what we could do with that. So I think we took full advantage of the opportunities that presented of things that were limitations to us in the show,” Favreau told DiscussingFilm.
Namely, the filmmaker stated that the creation of realistic battles featuring large creatures that weigh a lot and interact with their environment requires tremendous amounts of labor.
As he noted, thanks to the new budget, the production team can now bring creatures to life on a scale never seen before on a Disney+ series.
Rotta the Hutt’s Live-Action Debut

Among other revelations, Jon Favreau said that one of their key inspirations was bringing Rotta the Hutt to the screen in a completely new way, aiming to give him a believable live-action look while maintaining the grotesqueness characteristic of Hutts in the entire franchise.

Furthermore, the filmmaker emphasized that the film offers a much more cinematic approach to action scenes than was shown in the Disney+ series. Describing some large-scale battles, he called them “crazy percussive,” saying that they “get your heart going.” In general, all these things mean that ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu‘ promise a much more spectacular ride than its predecessors.
