Miley Cyrus turned a major award moment into something very personal on the finale of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race‘. The pop star surprised the audience when she openly called herself a “drag queen” while standing on one of the biggest stages celebrating drag culture.
Seconds later, she looked back at her childhood and delivered a message to her 4-year-old self, which became one of the event’s most memorable moments.

Cyrus joined RuPaul on the main stage to accept the Giving Us Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor previously given to icons like Liza Minnelli and Elvira.
Before the final two queens performed a lip-sync to her Something Beautiful album track “Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved,” featuring Naomi Campbell, RuPaul welcomed Cyrus and praised her for using her platform to support the LGBTQ community. The finale featured finalists Darlene Mitchell, Myki Meeks, and Nini Coco competing for the crown.

Cyrus kept the tone playful at first and joked, “This makes the Grammy look cheap,” which got a big reaction from the audience. A montage followed, highlighting her career and vocal support for LGBTQ people.
The moment turned more personal when RuPaul asked her what she would say to her younger self. Childhood photos appeared on screen, including one of her at age four. Cyrus smiled and said, “Life’s a climb, but the view is great. Especially from Beverly Hills!”. The line connected her past to her present and became the emotional highlight of the night.
Miley Cyrus’ Long Support for Drag Culture

RuPaul also asked Cyrus what keeps her going in life and in Hollywood. Cyrus spoke about standing beside icons and using her platform for something meaningful.
She then made her statement clear: “Because I’m a drag queen,” adding that she loves the idea of an alter ego giving people power. She mentioned performing in Paris alongside Beyoncé and called her a “she-ro,” showing her admiration.

RuPaul kept the conversation fun and asked which challenge she would win if she competed on the show. Cyrus replied that she would take on Snatch Game as Hannah Montana, a reference to her iconic character.
Cyrus has supported drag artists for years. She appeared as a drag king in the Werk Room on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11 and shared a memorable moment riding on Silky Nutmeg Ganache’s shoulders.
She has also publicly defended drag culture. During an interview with Joe Rogan, when he said drag queens “all do the same move,” Cyrus pushed back and said that’s what she thinks when watching his shows, too.
Her support also reached major stages. At the 2015 MTV VMAs, she performed “Dooo It!” and brought several drag performers on stage, including Alyssa Edwards, Alexis Mateo, Violet Chachki, Tammie Brown, Willam, Gia Gunn, Latrice Royale, Vivacious, Courtney Act, and the late Jiggly Caliente.
