According to The Wall Street Journal, Kanye West has officially informed Gap that his collaboration with the clothing company will end. West has recently made many social media complaints about the turbulent alliance, which was first announced in 2020.
The agreement between West and Gap was initially described as a collaboration to create a line of garments for the Yeezy Gap label. What is the reason behind the termination of the contract between the rapper and the clothing giant?

Kanye West Announces Yeezy’s Split With Gap
West’s attorneys informed Gap in a letter sent on Thursday that Yeezy LLC is ending the contract. The letter, which was obtained by The Wall Street Journal, said that Gap violated the agreement by delaying the release of the clothing and the opening of retail locations. Gap will continue to have the right to sell current Yeezy Gap products even if no more collaborations will be made; after that, the brand name will no longer be used. It does not affect products created in partnership with Balenciaga that are also offered for sale through Gap.
By July 31, 2023, Gap was required by the deal to open “as many as five retail shops” that will only feature Yeezy Gap products. The business has not yet established any. West has been very outspoken about his dissatisfaction with Gap. On social media, he lambasted the business, saying they cut him out of the creative process. “Yeezy notified Gap of its concerns in August and gave the company a contractually-designated 30 days to cure its breaches,” Nicholas Gravante, a lawyer for Ye, told CNBC. He said Gap took no action on the concerns.

What Has Kanye West Planned For Yeezy’s Future?
The rapper-entrepreneur elaborated on his remarks in a Monday interview with the American news source Bloomberg, although he did not apologize for his criticism of Gap and Adidas. “It’s time for me to go it alone,” he said in a phone exchange. “I made the companies money. The companies made me money. We created ideas that will change apparel forever. Like the round jacket, the foam runner, and the slides that have changed the shoe industry. Now it’s time for Ye to make the new industry. No more companies standing in between me and the audience,” he added.
The American designer has no plans to enter into any new contracts with other major organizations. But despite the uncertainty created by his earlier remarks, his present collaborations do not appear to be ending anytime soon. Bloomberg claims that Yeezy’s contract with Adidas runs until 2026 and his contract with Gap through 2030. On the sales of Yeezy merchandise by both parties, Kanye’s business continues to get sizable royalties. Both Gap and Adidas are presently undergoing substantial management changes. The rapper might be able to use these changes as a chance to modify the terms of his agreements with the two companies.
