The occasion is celebrated on May 22 of every year. According to the official website of the festival, it is the day when the goth scene gets a chance to celebrate their existence and make everyone around the world realize their presence.

Origin Of The World Goth Day Explained
The process of the World Goth Day celebration began a long time back in 2009 in the UK. It was called Goth Day in the beginning and it was a minor celebration of the gothic subculture which was derived from a few shows that aired on BBC Radio 6.
The BBC shows put emphasis on different music subcultures for seven days in May 2009 and it aired on May 22 of the same month. Following this, Goth DJ Lee Meadows wrote a blog on MySpace where he recommended starting a Goth Day. The blog received a positive response.
Lee then collaborated with another Goth DJ, Martin Oldgoth and they planned to spread the concept around the world. This was followed by the creation of a website and social media page and John Holley has been looking over the successful run of the occasion.

Activities Involved In The Celebration Of World Goth Day
There are a few things that are a part of the celebration for World Goth Day. The gothic culture has led to the rise of the best works in literature and people can choose to read goth classics that include ‘Wuthering Heights’, ‘Dracula’, and more.
People can also opt to organize a goth party where they can play goth music and tell everyone to wear a black outfit and pale makeup. The last option is to listen to goth music and some of the choices here include The Cure, Velvet Background, and others.
