When CM Punk made his iconic return at Survivor Series 2023, it was more than just a comeback. Few expected the Second City Saint to return to a company where he once felt mistreated during his initial run. An equally surprising element was his dynamic with Triple H, as the two were famously not on the same page in the past. What was once seen as a clash of two strong personalities has since taken a different turn.
Punk’s return signaled a potential shift, and it now appears that both men may have buried the hatchet and moved forward on better terms. During a recent appearance on the ALL THE SMOKE Unplugged podcast, Punk shed light on his relationship with the current WWE COO and opened up about what ultimately led to them mending fences.
CM Punk Took Inspiration From Two Hall Of Famers To Fix Things With Triple H

During the podcast, CM Punk reflected on how his relationship with Triple H evolved around the time of his return. He spoke highly of him, praising him as a devoted family man and someone deeply present for his children.
Punk also revealed that learning about Triple H’s heart condition played a significant role in shifting his perspective. It prompted him to think about how quickly things can change, leading to a deeper realization about holding onto past issues.
He pointed to how Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan were able to set aside their differences and forgive each other just days before Warrior’s unfortunate passing in 2014, something that made him reconsider whether their own rift was worth continuing.
Punk stated, “After a while, I reached out to Triple H, and I was just like… I knew he had this heart condition thing”.

He further added, “I had seen a clip of Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior, and everything we do is filmed. But they’re just having this conversation, and they’re kind of apologizing and forgiving each other. And then a couple days later, Ultimate Warrior dies. It just made me realize this ain’t worth it and I don’t care.”
Fans felt a sense of closure when Triple H and Punk were seen embracing backstage following Punk’s return, especially considering everything the two had been through over the years.
Triple H And CM Punk Had Real-Life Animosity In 2011

During the iconic “Summer of Punk,” Triple H stepped in as an authority figure to rein in the Second City Saint after he went off script against the company. Their on-screen rivalry eventually led to a clash at Night of Champions 2011, a match many fans believe stalled Punk’s momentum following his standout WWE Championship program with John Cena.
At the time, there was widespread speculation that Triple H may have misused his power, but it also became evident that there was genuine real-life tension between the two. A lack of trust seemed to define their working relationship, and during one of their 2011 promos, reports suggested that Punk may have gone off script and made personal remarks, which left Triple H furious.
