When it comes to great endings in TV series and shows, what do we mean by it? Series finales are quite a task, because all the years’ stories, loose ends, and plot twists must come to the perfect balance. The wrap-up is like a goodbye, and goodbyes must make perfect sense. However, many times, the season finales have ended up disappointing the fans. Most fans expect closure and a happy ending for their main characters.
Judging a series finale is for sure a subjective task, different for different people. However, some of these concluding episodes have been hated by the majority of the loyal viewers. Here are a few of those series finales which were looked upon and anticipated by the fans dearly, but unfortunately, left them hanging in the middle, with dissatisfaction and confusion.

Will And Grace
‘Will & Grace‘ released its final episode in 2006 after running for eight seasons. However, Max Mutchnick, the creator of the show, had to bring new sets of episodes to make up for the ending, which was despised by the viewers. The show ended with Will and Grace breaking their years long friendship. Mutchnick released new seasons a decade later, in which he introduced Will’s and Grace’s children who meet up in college. Their meet leads to Will and Grace rekindling their relationship. In the season finale, they move into a big house and raise their kids together.
Gossip Girl
‘Gossip Girl,’ had run its first few seasons with grand success. The plot involving elite teenagers trying to navigate secrets and scandals because of a mysterious gossip girl, who revealed all their secrets, appealed to a large scale of audience. However, as the series kept on moving forward, it started to lose a logical sense of story, until the series finale elevated the disappointment to the next level. The last episode reveals the mysterious gossip girl to be Dan. The fans rejected this, reasoning that, on the basis of all the previous scandals, Dan, being the secret spiller, doesn’t make any sense.

Supernatural
If there is one show that felt like it wouldn’t end, it was ‘Supernatural’. The show premiered in 2005 and had its season finale in 2020. The series’ original showrunner, Sera Gamble, quit the series after its fifth season. After her, it was taken up by Eric Kripke. The show was enjoyed by the fans for the starting seasons, and many have shared that after the fifth season, the show lost its relevance and spark. In 2020, when it finally premiered its last episode, many fans expressed their disappointment over a haphazard ending, which couldn’t even give justice to the story of the protagonists of the show, the Winchester brothers, especially Dean Winchester.
Scrubs
Many agree that ‘Scrubs’ should have ended with its eighth season as it had the perfect concluding episodes of all the fan-favorite characters. However, it returned for a ninth season, which pushed back all primary characters at the back. It was a given that the viewers wouldn’t find this very appealing. What was a hilariously funny constant show ended up being tattered by its ninth season.
13 Reasons Why
‘13 Reasons Why‘ is based on the novel by Jay Asher. Season one was much loved and appreciated, since the plot was very intense. In all honesty, there wasn’t any need for a second season of the show. However, it expanded to four seasons. The last episode still felt lacking since it didn’t have any solid conclusion. Moreover, Justin’s unnecessary death added to the pain. The show failed to provide a promissory hope.
Two And A Half Men
‘Two And A Half Men‘ felt like it was fated to spiral down when the show came under a series of unexpected changes. They introduced Ashton Kutcher into the show after the fifth season, and by eighth season, both Charlie Sheen and Angus T. Jones (who played Jake) exited the show. These two were the main characters in the comedy series. While Ashton Kutcher was delivering an excellent performance, his presence still couldn’t replace the protagonists of the show. The series finale ended up being a collection of confusing scenes and conclusions, and it did feel like the show had actually died.
Seinfeld
‘Seinfeld’ has opposing opinions by fans for its ending. On one hand, some fans found the end to be reasonable, while on the other hand, it felt quite unjustified. Many reasoned that the last episode is just like the tone and vibe of the show, which was light, funny and hilarious.

The seventh season of ‘The 100‘ was where everything became scattered and confusing. The action, which was primary to this series, was lost. Moreover, the main characters like Clara and Bellamy didn’t make many appearances. The series finale ended in a hopeless scenario, which left no respite for the fans who continued to watch it for several seasons.
How I Met Your Mother
‘How I Met Your Mother‘ started with a very interesting and fun plot that laid down the excitement for many coming years. By the end of the season finale, the show makers reunited Ted and Robin, which many fans really didn’t like because they were simply not meant for each other. It was early on accepted that the two were in fact toxic for each other. The last episode ended up having all possible last-minute changes like Robin and Barney’s divorce and killing off the show’s titular mother. The ending episode had much potential, but alas, it simply felt like the undoing of all the previous seasons’ successes.
Game Of Thrones
‘Game Of Thrones‘ is a very well paced TV series which ran for a good eight years. It isn’t surprising why people loved watching this show, which had described and plotted its universe very minutely and in detail, all the while maintaining the anticipation. ‘Game Of Thrones,‘ was definitely the least of the shows that were expected to give a disappointing season finale. As the eighth season commenced, the viewers could sense that the storyline was going off the way. According to some fans, the series finale failed to convince why it’s one of the best shows out there. It failed to give justice to the plot line, and mostly, because a lot was dependent on the ending. The last episode was dominant with truncated storylines, distressing character send-offs and somehow felt shallow.
