While the cast of ‘The Boys‘ gathered to celebrate the epic conclusion of their hit superhero satire, star Jensen Ackles offered a brutally honest confession that will surprise absolutely no one who watched him hunt demons for 15 years.
Ackles, who plays the egotistical ’50s Supe Soldier Boy, is not satisfied with the series ending. However, his complaint has nothing to do with bad writing or character death. “No, because it’s ending, I want more,” Ackles said at the series finale event. “I want seasons 6, 7, and 8. You’re talking to a guy that did 15 seasons of a show, so I’m like, ‘really 5 that’s it that’s all we’re getting, come on we can do more than that.’”
Showrunner Eric Kripke Wanted to Avoid Supernatural’s Creative Exploitation

The actor’s stance puts him in direct opposition to showrunner Eric Kripke, who has been adamant since day one that ‘The Boys‘ would only run for five seasons. Kripke, who also created ‘Supernatural‘, has stated he wanted to avoid the “creative exploitation” that stretched the Winchester brothers’ story well past its original seven-year plan, leading to fluctuating quality.

For Ackles, who played Dean Winchester for nearly twenty years, ending a hit show after just five seasons just doesn’t make sense to him. “It’s bittersweet,” Ackles told Entertainment Tonight. But he quickly added that his own time in this world is “not necessarily… come to an end.”
Soldier Boy Returns in Vought Rising Prequel Series

Fans of Soldier Boy shouldn’t mourn too hard. Even though Ackles wants more seasons of the main show, he is set to star in ‘Vought Rising,’ a prequel series set in the 1950s, starring Aya Cash as Stormfront.

Ackles said that in the modern timeline of ‘The Boys‘, Soldier Boy often felt like “an analog guy in a digital world.” However, the prequel finally lets him shine. “Now we see him in his element,” Ackles said. “We see him, kind of what made him who he was.”
His wish to keep going is nothing like his co-stars’. While Ackles was asking for Seasons 6, 7, and 8, actors like Erin Moriarty (Annie) and Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) said they were happy with the finale. They specifically liked that the show got to end on the creative team’s own terms.
Season 5 of ‘The Boys‘ is streaming now on Prime Video, and the series finale aired on May 20. Even with Ackles asking for more, Kripke has said this is really the end for the main series, but in the world of ‘The Boys‘, no one ever really stays dead forever.
