Jeremy Strong has made it clear that his time as Kendall Roy is truly over. ‘Succession’ is one of the best shows on TV, but Strong says he’s not interested in making a comeback if the opportunity ever came his way.

When asked if he’d ever want to play Kendall again, Strong responded, “No. No, that would be a stunt.” The actor who poured so much of himself into the troubled Roy heir feels like it’s more of a closure than a rejection. Kendall’s story was never a simple one. Strong’s performance brought out the ugly, heartbreaking, and painfully human aspects of the character.

Strong explained that there are plenty of shows and movies he would happily watch continue, and he admitted that he misses working with his ‘Succession’ castmates. Amid all the attention given to the reported tensions and behind-the-scenes drama, his love for his former colleagues was evident.

I love those guys, and I miss working with them,” Strong said. Perhaps that’s the most revealing of his remarks. Strong clearly hasn’t forgotten what the character meant to him; he simply believes Kendall’s story reached its natural ending. Bringing Kendall back just because audiences miss him could undermine what made Succession so powerful in the first place.

Strong said that he was prepared for the series to be over because he didn’t think there was much more for Kendall to offer. “I felt like there was no change left in my pockets,” he explained. “It was all left on the field, everything.”

It’s a thought that sums up the feeling of a Kendall comeback. Kendall saw his life change over four seasons, filled with ambition, humiliation, addiction, betrayal, grief and the desperate need for his father’s approval. Toward the end, there was not much left to explore emotionally.

Everything that character could have gone through, he went through,” Strong said. The actor’s final words about a character to which viewers have grown so fond are saddening. However, it’s why Kendall’s ending was so effective. His story ended before nostalgia could turn it into a gimmick, and Strong seems determined to leave it that way.
