    ‘Scooby Doo’ has always been one of those shows that intrigue kids as well as adults. Not to make everyone feel old but the show has been around for over half a century. Remember the Scooby Doo character Velma Dinkley? With HBO releasing a series centering on this character named Velma’ there has been a lot of commotion among the fans.

    People have always been skeptical about her sexuality. Not to be stereotypical but her orange jumper with these red skirts doesn’t leave room for much questioning, right? Let’s get a deeper look into one of our favorite characters.

In the 2022 animated film ‘Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!’, the writers have made it totally and unambiguously obvious that Velma is a lesbian. Velma openly crushes hard on Coco Diablo who is the supporting antagonist of the film. She even confesses her swoon and cush and says, “I’m crushing big time, Daphne. What do I do? What do I say?”

    James Gunn also confessed and said, “In 2001 Velma was explicitly gay in my initial script, but the studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous, then nothing and finally having a boyfriend.

    What Is Velma’s Ethnicity?

    In ‘Velma‘, the adult animated mystery comedy television series, Mindy Kailing becomes the voice of the character. The series premiered on January 12, 2023, and unlike ‘Scooby Doo’, Velma is the central character in this series. The show reveals her ethnicity to be Indian whereas the character of Daphne is Asian.

    The change in the ethnicity of the character did come as a surprise to the fans. In the familiar cartoon, however, the character was of Caucasian descent. In the show, the titular character is a crime solver who is trying to figure out the mysterious disappearance of her mother. However, there is definitely a big change in terms of race, the character pretty much stays the same in the series.
