‘Sullivan’s Crossing‘ season 4 marks one of the biggest changes in the show’s history, with Scott Patterson‘s Sully no longer part of the main story. While many fans have struggled to accept the departure of the beloved character, series star Morgan Kohan believes the change has given the drama a fresh direction.
Kohan recently reflected on how Sully’s absence affects Maggie and the world of ‘Sullivan’s Crossing‘. Although she understands why viewers have reacted so strongly, she says it has opened the door to new stories and new relationships.
Morgan Kohan Believes Sully’s Exit From ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Opens New Doors
Earlier this year, Scott Patterson officially exited ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ after his character, Harry “Sully” Sullivan, left for Ireland with Helen in the season 3 finale. Season 4 is the first without the show’s title character at the center of the story.

Morgan Kohan, who plays Maggie, admitted that everyone involved knew the decision would spark a reaction from viewers. “We all knew that it was going to change things and that the audience would definitely have a reaction to that,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
Despite that, Kohan feels the change has created exciting new possibilities for the series. “But I really do think no matter what, when there’s going to be such a big change in a show that’s so loved in the way that it is, it does open up so many new opportunities. And I love so many of the characters that we get to bring in this season.”
Maggie’s Story Changes Without Sully Around
Kohan explained that Sully’s absence has a direct impact on Maggie, who had rebuilt her relationship with her estranged father after returning to ‘Sullivan’s Crossing‘. Without him nearby, Maggie has to find a new source of support and guidance.

“It shifts things for Maggie,” Kohan said. “This changes her sense of grounding at the Crossing, too, and who she goes to for guidance. It shakes things up in a nice way.”
Even though Sully is no longer physically present, Kohan stressed that the character remains an important part of the series. “It’s not like [he] was just going to be never acknowledged again because Sully is such a presence,” she said, confirming that the show continues to mention him through off-screen updates and references.
While Sully’s exit continues to divide the ‘Sullivan’s Crossing‘ fanbase, Morgan Kohan believes the series is entering an exciting new chapter. As season 4 unfolds, viewers will see how Maggie adapts to life without her father while the show explores fresh stories.
