As ‘The Boys’ nears its conclusion, Homelander’s desire to become a god is becoming increasingly frightening. However, surprisingly, season 5 episode 7 isn’t solely a story of Homelander’s cruelty; it’s also about those around him finally understanding just how far things have gone.
Daveed Diggs Explains Why Oh-Father Is Beginning To Fear Homelander

The disturbing focus group scene that the episode features shows Oh-Father helping to run Homelander’s campaign of devotion. However, when non-believers become the targets, it gets ugly. He eventually remains by Homelander’s side, but Diggs, the actor behind Oh Father, says that moment has a profound impact on his character.
“He’s given a lot of opportunities, and I think it does get really conflicting for him. Again, he’s a hustler, but he’s not a murderer. That’s actually not his vibe. He’s powerful, but not like that,” he told SR. Oh Father, might finally start to question what power costs.

Oh Father has had several chances this season to leave Homelander. It is difficult to give up things like power, influence, and proximity to someone who is worshipped like a god. The actor’s characterization of his character as “a hustler, but not a murderer” is a great description of the moral dilemma he is facing.
Oh Father likes influence. He enjoys status. But to watch innocent people being targeted for death just because they don’t worship Homelander is definitely a line he does not want to cross.
Diggs also related the narrative to the actual debates. “With all of the Epstein files and everything else. What does it mean to be a billionaire? What does wealth cost you in terms of your morality? How do you have to feel about humanity to be that wealthy? Those are the questions that Oh Father starts to grapple with, too.”
That comparison makes Oh Father more interesting than at first. He’s not a complete monster; he’s a man who is chipping away slowly, because it’s more comfortable to be around power than it is to fight it. This inner conflict could prove to be crucial in the final battle.
Homelander’s Empire Is Beginning To Wobble

Episode 7 is effective because it lets the audience know that fear is trickling into Homelander’s own world. Even those who once thought of him as unstoppable are starting to see cracks. Oh Father spent much of the season treating Homelander like a savior figure after losing faith in God himself.

He’s beginning to question that loyalty, however, as he sees more and more extreme behavior. The hesitation is minimal, but in Homelander’s world, doubt can be deadly. Meanwhile, characters like MM and Starlight have managed to save much of the focus group, and Homelander is not yet in full control.
Resistance still exists. With the final episode of ‘The Boys’ upon us, Oh Father now finds himself caught between survival and morality. The bad news is that Homelander is a very quick judge of loyalty, and people don’t last long if he doesn’t like them.
