Why Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw From ‘Sex And The City’ Is The Absolute Worst

‘Sex And The City’ has undoubtedly been one of the most popular television series of all time. Watching four friends waddle through life, relationships, friendships and troubles in iconic style on the streets of New York has been an absolute pleasure. However, some fans would say that they share a very love-hate relationship with the lead Carrie Bradshaw.

This has been a topic of debate for quite some time now. Whether Carrie Bradshaw really was the friend that the others deserved and was she a fashion diva as well? Most have agreed that she is the absolute worst in both senses. Surprisingly, Sarah Jessica Parker has given her nod to the situation as well. SJP has not backed down from throwing shade at her beloved role.

It has been often said that an actor understands the character they play the best. After all, walking in the shoes of a person for such a long time means you have to understand them inside out. So it seems that the debate of whether Carrie Bradshaw is not such a good friend has been settled once and for all by Sarah Jessica Parker herself.

Our choices have been so radically different. There are certain kinds of pillars that fundamentally are different,” Parker said while commenting on the association between her real self and reel self. Further, in an interview with the New Yorker, Parker agreed that the chaotic and raunchy lifestyle of a sex columnist, who is also addicted to shopping and nicotine, was indeed “completely unfamiliar” to her.

Carrie Bradshaw has undoubtedly been the dream of many girls growing up. Having her closet, a friends group like that and leading the fabulously scandalous life of hers has been on the wishlist of many young girls. But part of growing up is when you realize that all that glitz and glamor is actually not that good.

Fans feel that Bradshaw is a terrible friend in the show. They have pointed out scenes where she is judgemental, toxic and selfish. Viewers also point out that Carrie is an even worse girlfriend. It is safe to say that fans took her cheating on Aidan a bit too much to heart. Other factors pointed out by viewers are that she smokes, she is always acting like a victim, she is immature, and has even said that she is a fake feminist

But Carrie Bradshaw’s magic has still captivated the viewers of Sex And The City’. As the third season of ‘And Just Like That’ is ready to start filming, viewers are pretty excited for it. Although Bradshaw may be immature, toxic, and selfish, Sarah Jessica Parker has surely captivated the audience with her perfect portrayal of her.

It is very natural to wonder why SJP chose to come back as Carrie Bradshaw even though she does not agree with Carrie’s outlook on life. Well, one might argue that it is an actor’s job to play characters completely different from their real lives. But what does Parker have to say to this?

“It always felt exciting to play Carrie. It always felt interesting and challenging and surprising and familiar and unfamiliar. And I loved playing that part,” said Sarah Jessica Parker in a conversation with Vogue. “I loved everything about it. I loved all that came with it — meaning the people that I was surrounded by, the people I worked for and with, the city that we shoot in, the crew members that make it happen,” she continued.

Sarah added, “All of the bits and pieces were enormously satisfying and fulfilling. To consider doing it again and to be on the set, it felt really good.” She then revealed how a phone call with Michael Patrick King was what led to the idea of making a comeback with ‘And Just Like That‘.
