The Boys’ season 5 might have been the end of a big story, but it’s not the end of the franchise. The conclusion of the hit Prime Video series has left fans scratching their heads.

However, now fans can look ahead to the upcoming prequel ‘Vought Rising’, which will be released in 2027. The series comes at a very different time compared to the previous spin-offs. As ‘Gen V’ fades away and other projects are still up in the air, ‘Vought Rising’s expectations are surprisingly high.

Vought Rising’ will be set in the 1950s and will focus on the early years of Vought International, the strong company behind the creation of Compound V and the superhero universe that is seen across ‘The Boys’.

The franchise has been teasing Vought’s dark history for years, and the new series is finally here to shed light on it. Longtime fans have plenty to cheer for already with the cast. Aya Cash is back as Stormfront, with Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy.

They’re joined by Mason Dye, as Bombsight, and newcomers Will Hochman and Elizabeth Posey. It has everything on paper to make a good prequel. The period setting will provide a new visual aesthetic, and the opportunity to learn more about Vought’s earliest secrets may answer questions fans have had for years.

The prequel is especially intriguing because it doesn’t sound like another companion series. When ‘The Boys’ was still airing, a prequel could have existed as an optional expansion of the universe. Now, it has become the franchise’s main event.

It’s a big job. Fans are not just seeking background history; they’re demanding a show that can replicate the same razor-sharp satire, jaw-dropping turns, and dark characters that made ‘The Boys’ a cultural phenomenon in the first place.

The other issue is regaining momentum. When a big franchise is over, viewers start to tune out. ‘Vought Rising’ will have to make viewers remember why they were interested in this universe in the first place.

The positive aspect is that the exploration of Vought’s conception was not possible in the original series. If the show can somehow meld the historical period with the franchise’s signature twist, it just might be a lot more than a prequel. ‘Vought Rising’ is more than just the next chapter in ‘The Boys’ universe. It might determine what the future of the franchise looks like.
