It is a widely known fact that the universe of The Boys relies on utter corporate cynicism, where Vought Labs manufactures superheroes instead of evolution creating them. Recently, showrunner Eric Kripke has officially confirmed the shutdown of a major fan theory about the emergence of the next generation of supes. According to Eric Kripke, Ryan remains the only naturally born Supe as per the storyline.

As the dynamics in the field of superpowers continue to shift, a touching full-circle story centers around Hughie and Annie. Surviving corporate manipulations and violence for several seasons, the couple contemplates raising their future child in peace as a tribute to where Hughie’s journey started.

Recently, Eric Kripke put to rest one of the biggest fan theories regarding future developments in ‘The Boys’ while confirming that Starlight and Hughie’s child will not naturally inherit their parents’ superpowers.

Speaking to ScreenRant, the showrunner explained that there is still only one born Supe in the entire series, and he is the one-of-a-kind exception from the rule. Specifically, every other superhero appearing in the show gained their abilities via injection of Compound V instead of inheriting them biologically.

Eric Kripke said, “No, the only born superhero is Ryan. Everyone else has to be injected,” directly dismissing the idea that Hughie and Annie’s child could become another naturally powered Supe.

This statement effectively reiterates the point about all the superheroes being artificial creatures produced by a corporate lab. According to the plot of the show, Vought International engaged in a secret project experimenting with children via injection of Compound V to create marketable superheroes for the company’s commercial gain.

Therefore, Ryan’s uniqueness is especially noteworthy since he is the first known character to be born with superhuman abilities instead of having them artificially implanted at birth.

The importance of Ryan becomes obvious from this standpoint because this character is a crucial element of ‘The Boys’ mythology. As the son of Homelander, Ryan became the first known character born with powers, a characteristic that makes him central to the show’s larger conflict and future direction.

Kripke’s clarification also suggests that the writers do not intend to repeat Ryan’s storyline with another child, keeping his role unique within the universe of ‘The Boys.’

Clarifying the nature of the supes in the universe of ‘The Boys,’ Kripke also dropped a hint about a more personal aspect of Hughie and Starlight’s story.

According to the showrunner, the two main characters might opt to raise their future child away from the whole universe of ‘The Boys,’ as well as from all the dangers and conflicts associated with it.

Rather than continuing their vicious cycle with Compound V and Vought International, Hughie and Annie seem to realize how much better it would be to raise a child normally.

In the interview, Eric Kripke pointed out that “I’d like to think that they’ve learned their lesson, and they’re going to give baby Robin a happy, normal life.”

The statement immediately stood out to longtime viewers because of the emotional significance attached to the name Robin. As one might recall, in the very first episode of ‘The Boys,’ Hughie’s girlfriend Robin Ward was accidentally killed by A-Train in one of the show’s most shocking scenes.

Eric Kripke’s statements thus imply that Hughie’s emotional journey is close to completion. Having undergone a lot of pain and suffering, as well as betrayal and violence, Hughie and Annie would want to live peacefully, leaving behind their terrible experience in the superhero universe.

Therefore, instead of turning their child into yet another Supe, they will strive to protect him from the evil world they know too well.
