The Shortcomings In The Original Ending To The Manga

    Justifying The Massacre

In the final chapter of the manga, We saw Eldians regaining their end memories and recollecting all the sacrifices Erin made in his past, In an emotional setting they vouched for Eren as a hero of humanity, completely ignoring rather than justifying the fact that he ended up taking more than thousands of lives.

This thought makes Erin stand out as a hero however it also defies the purpose of the entire saga, where Titans were a threat to humanity, making it a primary reason for the Otaku’s resentment.

Not A Happy Ending For Romantic Subplots

This series does not hold tight upon the moments of emotions or love, thanks to its gruesome premise. There were characters whom the fandom shipped, and seeing them ending in a different direction, made us all regret, and imagine what if they had ended up being together.

Ymir and Historia’s love remains unfinished as Historia is eventually devoured by Porco. Eren’s death too led to the beautiful love that blossoms between him and Mikasa, making the plot even sadder.

    Eren’s Short-Sighted Goal

Eren’s view on calling “Demons of Paradis Island” the hero of the nations distorts the theme of peace to a larger extent. This made Eldia into a battle-ready state, seeking help and collecting communities to fight against retaliation from the world.

This can end up making the situation adverse in the forthcoming time however Eren’s diplomacy made his ultimate goal short-sighted risking the future of humanity to a larger aspect.

No Significant Scope For Spin-offs For The Supporting Characters

The end did not define the magnificence of the characters involved in this epic. The sense of closure that we expected from the supporting characters that lend a hand in making this fantasy world lively, was somehow missing.

Historia and Yelena, the characters who owed a lot to the series, more from a point of love interest, remained unnoticed with minor mentions with a gist of their flashbacks. Many characters do not even get their fair share of mentions during the final arc, who played a major role in the development of the series making it an unsatisfied ending for the readers.

Ymir’s Motivations Remain Questionable Even By The Conclusion

It was quite strange to see Ymir switch sides with Eren, making it complicated knowing that all the while he had been an antagonist. What makes the situation even more questionable is his confession to Eren that he was just playing a part to free Mikasa from the devotion of the man who enslaved her for years, King Karl Fritz.

This confession might seem quite contradictory as Eren had been at the forefront all the while freeing her from this curse of slavery, with little to no screen presence of Ymir taking the charge.

Reasons Why A Different Ending Won’t Work

With Eren’s death, the curse of the Titans finally came to an end. As Mikasa, Armin, and Levi with fellow warriors fought against Eren, they managed to destroy the shining centipede, the ultimate originating factor of the Titan.

Mikassa finally kisses Eren’s human body and bids him farewell to find his solace. This ended up making humanity live once again out of the fear of the humans devouring monsters, making it a perfect emotional yet impactful conclusion to the series.

Most Of The Characters Get A Closure

The ending was quite a surprise as we saw the Titans reviving back to their human existence, ensuring suffering is minimized to the fullest. The final arc led to closure and happy lives for many where we saw Reiner and Annie redeeming themselves, and the other characters making peace with the current situation and their friends. It was quite satisfying for the readers to come to the conclusion that forecasted a range of emotions mostly the happy ones.

    Eren’s Self-Realisation

Eren’s self-realization of the fact of ultimate havoc and genocide that lead to a scar upon humanity makes him the most promising anti-hero in anime history. He is a grey character that appeals to the masses for its authentic portrayal of emotions and regrets that come with self-realization to the ultimate.

This makes us care for him, feeling sad as he breathes his last, his demise was shocking but it was impactful enough to let the viewers sympathize with the character and his journey from a Titan to a human.

    A Connecting Cord Established Prominently

This can turn out to be the most shocking revelation in the final Arc, which leads to anime lovers questioning their intelligence. The way the creators seemingly intertwined the conclusion to the beginning was commendable.

Eren’s confession in his dream while wavering upon the ship, that he let the Titan devour his mother, to keep him determined enough to take his revenge upon Bertholdt, makes it an even more appealing tale of revenge.

The Art And Picturesque Worth a Mention

The way Isayama illustrated the final chapter of the manga, is commendable. The authentic representation of the dynamics of this masterpiece during its 139th chapter is a perfect blend of storytelling.

The unique aspect of his creation remains realistic yet appealing to the eyes, wanting us more to transport to the valleys it walked us through. Eventually, the well-designed characters and their appearances are noteworthy and compliments Isayama’s artistic vision.
