What Is Ikari Form In ‘Dragon Ball’? Why Is Broly The Only One To Use It?

    What Is The Ikari Form?

The Saiyans of planet Vegeta have always been strong and reliable. They have multiple forms which allow them to grow stronger. One of the very popular such forms is the Super Saiyan which was previously believed to be only legendary. It wasn’t until Goku transformed that the form was proven true.

Another such form is the transformation into the great ape form of the Saiyans. Almost all the Saiyans can turn into this form. Ikari is a form that allows the Saiyan to tap into the powers of a great ape without actually transforming into the great ape form. Essentially, the Saiyan would have the power of the great ape but would maintain their humanoid form.

This form was first used by Broly. Upon transformation, Broly’s eye color changed to yellow. In the second stage of the transformation, it turned bright gold. The form also causes immense pain to Broly and he growls in pain which is mistaken for anger.

Broly is the only Saiyan to have used the Ikari form. It is never confirmed in the manga or the anime why this is, but fans have speculated the reasons for this. This is because Broly cannot change into a full ape due to the absence of his tail. Other Saiyans such as Goku and Vegeta were able to change into the great ape and the great ape golden.

The one downside of the Ikari form is that the user loses control over himself in the form. Broly doesn’t recognize anyone and he feels immense pain as his powers keep flowing out of him.

Another reason why Broly is the only one to use this form is that Broly is a mutant Saiyan, so such powers may come to him easily which is why he could use Ikari without training for it. Other Saiyans such as Goku and Vegeta may also be able to use this form with proper training but it is not advantageous to them. They have their ultra instinct and ultra ego, which are stronger. In addition to that, this form doesn’t allow the user to retain their consciousness.

These are the reasons why Broly is the only one to use the Ikari form in ‘Dragon Ball‘.
