One Piece‘ is known for its extensive yet impressive worldbuilding. It’s got an elaborate lore of its own, but that’s not it. The series has some really mysterious and cryptic characters as well. Some made their way into oral traditions, and others remain known through fabled legends.

One such person is Louis Arnote, who remains an enigma to this date. While very little is known of him, there is plenty to underline his significance in Eiichiro Oda’s series. Here’s everything we know so far about the mysterious man.

One Piece has tall tales, laugh tales, and sometimes legends too good to be true, which are passed off as mockery. This was especially true for Louis Arnote, who explored the Grand Line and went on adventures.

He wrote accounts describing his journeys and experiences. The description, however, was met with ridicule, as most people couldn’t believe it to be true. Rather, they thought those were simply tall tales by the man. He was an explorer, a traveler, and in some ways, a mistaken storyteller.

Arnote’s writings were discovered later on, sometime after the events of the buster call in Ohara. We know this island for birthing some of the most highly intelligent scholars and educators.

It was around this time that his book Brag Tales was also discovered, along with other texts. It is passed off and shrugged off as a text of tall tales, and rightly so. However, it is also interesting how Nami found it interesting and cohesive with how it turned out to be. She even admitted to having a copy of it, which is precisely how she discovered the existence of the island.

The book isn’t a mere commentary on the worldbuilding and foreshadowing but a forewarning. It ties all loose threads brilliantly and adds depth to the lore in Oda’s series.

While most people dismissed and refuted Arnote’s writings, the texts provided interesting observations. His perspectives on Little Garden’s ecosystem and prehistoric nature also helped the Straw Hats understand the geography of the place better.

It also makes sense why he would name the island Little Garden. Some speculate it’s because giants Dorry and Brogy lived there, so it could be from their POV.

Aside from that, Arnote’s forewarning about Elbaph also warns the Strawhats of the perils that might follow them. In his recorded texts, he tells travelers to stay in the place, for it’s warm and welcoming, but don’t overextend your stay.

He tells them not to linger for too long, which is a buildup of what’s to come. This is all coherent with how the story is proceeding, especially in the final saga. While the Little Garden saga gave a peek into the giants’ existence, Elbaph is a deep dive into what’s to come.

With the final saga, Oda is laying out a stage for a showdown. The warnings and premonitions all point to a hidden history, dark truths, and revelations that will be mapped out.

This is also something that Arnote hints at but might not have expanded on. So while most people scoffed at his writings, he did contribute greatly to the lore and understanding of the world in the One Piece series.
