Floyd Mayweather Jr. Gets Teary-Eyed During His Hall Of Fame Induction Speech

On Sunday, the nominees of 2020, 2021, and 2022 were inducted into the International Boxing Hall Of Fame at Turning Stone Resort and Casino. Due to the pandemic, the last two induction programs were clubbed together this year. Amongst many, Floyd Mayweather Jr. also received this great honor.

Mayweather retired after the invincible 50-fights streak. Muhammad Ali’s daughter Laila Ali, Andre Ward, and Wladimir Klitschko joined Mayweather at the ceremony. Floyd got emotional while receiving the honor, and termed it as “by far the best” he has done in his career.

It was a big day for Mayweather as he was inducted into the acclaimed International Boxing Hall Of Fame. For Mayweather Jr., it was a turbulent journey in the ring. Despite the odds, Floyd won the three out of four National Golden Gloves Competitions in 1993, 1994, and 1996. He got the name “Pretty Boy” due to no scars on his face.

During his career, his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., and uncle Roger Mayweather were at crossroads. The champion did not let the family feud affect his career, and in 1998, he won the WBC Junior Lightweight title and Fighter of the Year award from the Ring Magazine. During his acceptance speech, he broke into tears and said, “I did a lot in my career, but this is by far the best.” He credited his mom, dad, and sister for much of his success.

During his speech, Laila Ali consoled the sobbing Mayweather. He continued, “I want to thank the International Boxing Hall of Fame for giving me this. This right here is going to my dad because he deserves it. Bernard Hopkins said it best, ‘You’ve got to earn it,’ and my dad earned this ring. I want to say thank you to everybody for your support. I want to tell all the fighters, thank you, you guys are remarkable. There wouldn’t be no me without you guys.”
