On Tuesday, as Clarkson shared her soulful, stripped-down cover of Perry’s song along with her show’s musical director, Jason Halbert, her talent was on full display. With a slowed-down tempo and acoustic arrangement, Clarkson’s vocal range was highlighted as she sang.

Katy Perry Lauds Kelly Clarkson For Her Singing Prowess
Katy Perry took to the comments section of a video of Clarkson’s performance shared on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show‘ Instagram account. “Ok dang I can never sing that again,” Katy Perry wrote. The comment sparked a flurry of responses from fans.
“This is my favorite song of yours and I feel every second when I [listen] to your version,” one social media user commented. “I love Kelly and the cover was amazing but I could never change your version,” another said, while a third one added, “Duet?”
Clarkson’s rendition of ‘Wide Awake‘ comes nearly 12 years after Perry first released the song as part of her album ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’. The song is especially significant for the singer as it is inspired by some personal happenings including her divorce from Russell Brand. ‘Wide Awake‘ became a commercial success, peaking at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
