    Fans of ‘The Kelly Clarkson Showknow that Clarkson fearlessly covers hits from various artists during her segment called Kellyoke. On the last episode, she presented her audiences with a powerful rendition of Katy Perry’s ‘Wide Awake‘. As usual, her performance earned applause from her viewers, but this time, it also left the original artist herself stunned.

    On Tuesday, as Clarkson shared her soulful, stripped-down cover of Perry’s song along with her show’s musical director, Jason Halbert, her talent was on full display. With a slowed-down tempo and acoustic arrangement, Clarkson’s vocal range was highlighted as she sang.

    Soon after the episode, the cover of Perry’s song garnered heavy attention on social media and went viral. It soon came to Perry’s attention as well, who couldn’t resist but admire it.

    Katy Perry took to the comments section of a video of Clarkson’s performance shared on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show Instagram account. “Ok dang I can never sing that again,” Katy Perry wrote. The comment sparked a flurry of responses from fans.

    This is my favorite song of yours and I feel every second when I [listen] to your version,” one social media user commented. “I love Kelly and the cover was amazing but I could never change your version,” another said, while a third one added, “Duet?”

    Clarkson’s rendition of ‘Wide Awake‘ comes nearly 12 years after Perry first released the song as part of her album ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’. The song is especially significant for the singer as it is inspired by some personal happenings including her divorce from Russell Brand. ‘Wide Awake‘ became a commercial success, peaking at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
