Say what you will about Jacob Elordi‘s Nate Jacobs, but ‘Euphoria‘ definitely gave him one hell of a dark ending. The character already had enough on his plate after marrying Cassie, and then came the environmental regulations that completely stalled his construction projects.
The situation pushed him into major debt, and it all went downhill fast. But the energy behind the scenes was equally awful, as Elordi went through torture to shoot those final shots. By the end of the claustrophobic filming, the actor was sure that creator Sam Levinson brought him back just to put him through a physical nightmare.
Jacob Elordi’s Claustrophic Filming Was Absolute Torture
The third season of ‘Euphoria’ delivered the audience an unhappy ending to Nate’s story, but the whole process of filming it wasn’t any easier for Jacob Elordi. Jumping ahead five years from the story told in season 2, the ex-bully now runs the construction business left behind by his father.

However, karma soon finds him due to a series of bad business decisions, which ultimately leaves him at the mercy of Naz, a mortuary executive who will do everything possible to send him six feet under. During his recent appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Elordi revealed Levinson’s real intentions.
“I think Sam [Levinson] brought me back to torture me. It was like, six weeks of me just getting beat by a seven-foot guy. I was just running the whole time,” he said. In the penultimate episode of the HBO series, viewers saw Naz capturing him.
The character buries him alive in one of his coffins, not before providing him with a breathing tube. But guess what? It turns out to be a means of transporting a rattlesnake down six feet to bite him.
“I got locked in a coffin for two days straight with prosthetics and a fake tongue, and I couldn’t see out of my eyes. And then Sam put snakes into the coffin.” Interestingly, Nate’s last co-star on the show wasn’t as threatening as it looked onscreen.
“I was fine with it. He had a very nice personality. He was very docile and very sleepy. I don’t think he’d had a lot of sun, so I was kind of nudging him, trying to get him to get active and do the scene, because he was meant to be threatening. But he was like a little dog.”
Instead of attacking, he just curled up at the actor’s feet after slithering down the tube and finding a warm spot. Meanwhile, Levinson has a funny story about how he came up with such a strange ending for Nate.

In an early interview, Levinson said he initially thought to make Nate die of either suffocation or heat as Naz buried him alive. The thought of leaving him in the coffin with an air hole comes from the movie ‘The Candy Snatchers.’

However, he explained why he had changed his mind about the way Nate would die once. He and his wife, Ashley, were driving around Los Angeles in perfect weather, listening to Otis Redding. And it’s exactly when this crazy thought struck him.
“I just had this image of a rattlesnake coming towards this pipe. He’s banging, and the snake can sense the movement in the ground. And I thought, ‘What if the snake goes into the pipe and then he’s stuck inside the coffin with this rattlesnake?’”
“It’s sort of a funny moment where you realize that not all dark scenes come from a dark place.” Levinson turned to his wife to share the idea, and she couldn’t believe he was thinking such a deadly plot. After all, they were out and about in such gorgeous weather.
Staying inside a box with live snakes may seem a pure horror story for Elordi. But his willingness to undergo this madness has paid off tenfold. Eight years ago, he was jobless and had decided to quit acting and move back to Australia.
“It really changed my whole life,” he said. “It’s an incredible thing to have something like that happen. I don’t know if I’ll ever fathom the sort of size of that show and what it did for me.” Overall, the ending might have been a little toxic, but it featured the very character that launched Elordi into stardom.
