Millie Bobby Brown isn’t shy about sharing embarrassing stories, especially when they’re at her own expense. During a recent conversation, the ‘Stranger Things‘ star revealed a road trip memory that left her husband, Jake Bongiovi, wondering why she refused to do what most people would consider the obvious thing.
For Brown, stopping at a public restroom simply wasn’t an option. Instead, she relied on a habit she says dates back to her childhood, turning an ordinary drive through Alabama into one of the funniest stories from the couple’s marriage.

Appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Brown recalled traveling through Alabama with Bongiovi and a group of friends when she suddenly needed to use the bathroom. Rather than asking the driver to stop at a gas station or rest area, she decided to improvise.
Brown told host Alex Cooper, “We were on a road trip, and we were in Alabama, and it was just me and Jake and our friends, and I needed a wee.” Instead of waiting any longer, she said she “just hung out of the car and peed…in a swamp in the middle of Alabama.”
It left everyone else in the car wondering what had just happened. The story became even stranger after Brown used a cup during the same journey. Although she emptied it afterward, the lid had become what she jokingly described as “a pee cup.”
Rather than throwing it away, the group kept it in the vehicle for the rest of the trip and nicknamed it the “pee lid,” reminding each other not to touch it whenever it came up. Bongiovi couldn’t understand why any of it had been necessary.
Brown recalled her husband asking, “Millie, like, you couldn’t have, like, done anything? We could have stopped. You could have waited.” But she insisted the whole situation felt perfectly normal to her, and it’s all because of one long-standing habit.
Brown Says She Grew Up Peeing On Road Trips
Brown explained that her relaxed attitude toward roadside bathroom breaks comes from the way she grew up. Long family road trips made stopping in the middle of nowhere feel completely ordinary, so the Alabama incident didn’t strike her as unusual.

She laughed that she “grew up basically peeing in swamps,” adding that whenever someone needed the bathroom during a trip, the solution was simply to “go just pee on the side of the road.” To her, it was far preferable to using public restrooms.
The actress has never hidden her dislike of public toilets, and she admitted that avoiding them has become second nature. While the story left Bongiovi and their friends completely baffled, Brown treated it as just another example of how differently the couple approaches everyday situations.
Her candid confession quickly resonated with fans online. Some laughed at the infamous “pee lid,” while others related to her determination to avoid public restrooms at all costs.
