Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Says “This Is A Unique MeToo Case Without Any MeToo” During Closing Arguments

Johnny Depp’s defamation case against Amber Heard has reached its last stage. The actor’s attorney, Benjamin Chew, claimed to the jury that Heard’s allegations of domestic abuse were completely baseless. He asserted that the actor had never been accused of physically assaulting another woman.

During the trial’s closing arguments, Chew also said that prior to Amber Heard, no other woman ever alleged that Mr. Depp sexually touched her in his 58 years of existence.

Johnny Depp’s legal representative stated, “This is a unique and singular ‘me too’ case, where there is not a single ‘me too’”.

However, Chew stated that “there is a world of difference between substance abuse problems and being a physical abuser.”

Camille Vasquez, another of Depp’s attorneys, made the case earlier in Depp’s final argument that the actor, not Amber Heard, was the victim of “chronic verbal, emotional, and physical assault.”

Vasquez told the jury, “There is a domestic violence victim in this courtroom, and it is not Miss Heard.”

After an incident at their downtown LA penthouse, Heard went to court to get a domestic violence restraining order against Depp six years ago.

The scenario at the courthouse was dubbed “a setup” by Vasquez, who claimed that Heard arranged for press coverage in order to get photos of her damaged face. Depp allegedly hit her with a phone, according to the actress. Heard’s injuries may have been fake, according to Vasquez, who claimed that “the world only saw what she wanted them to see.

When Heard filed for divorce from Depp six years ago, Vasquez recalled, “She wanted to ruin him.” The attorney played back audio samples of Heard smiling and seemingly teasing her husband during confrontations.

Heard “repeatedly admits to violence,” Vasquez said, citing an audio clip in which Heard talked about striking Depp. On the other hand, Vasquez added that Depp never acknowledged any physical aggression against Amber Heard.

In an op-ed in the Washington Post, Amber Heard wrote, “I became a public figure representing domestic abuse and I faced the full weight of our culture’s fury for women who speak out,” Depp sued Heard for $50 million in December 2018 for defamation. Heard countersued for $100 million on the grounds that her abuse allegations were not unfounded.
