Jason Momoa is an actor and filmmaker from the United States. He made his acting debut as Jason Ioane in the syndicated action drama series Baywatch: Hawaii. He played Khal Drogo in the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones for the first two seasons. Recently, the actor signed a deal with Warner Bros. for a Minecraft-based film. Momoa Has Signed Minecraft Movie With Warner Bros.
Jason Momoa, star of Aquaman and Dune is set to feature in another Warner Bros. tentpole. The Hollywood Reporter has verified that the actor is in final talks to appear in the studio’s live-action Minecraft film. Napoleon Dynamite director, Jared Hess will direct the film.
Mary Parent and Roy Lee, who produced Dune, will produce the project. Jill Messick will appear in a posthumous producing credit for her work on the project before her death in 2018. Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, and Jon Spaihts are among the executive producers.
Video game developer Mojang Studios, creator of the game, and Lydia Winters and Vu Bui from Mojang will also produce the film.
Minecraft: Everything We Know So Far
The 2011 game Minecraft allows users to build structures and planets out of bricks. The game was a hit, with 100 million users within a few years after its release, prompting Microsoft to buy Mojang for $2.5 billion in 2014.
For years, Warners has been developing a film based on the game, with Shawn Levy and Rob McElhenney of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia among those at the helm.
Gaming films have been in high demand in recent years, with 20th Century Fox starting a successful series with Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy last year and Paramount releasing a successful sequel to Sonic earlier this month.
The film, directed by Momoa and produced by Warner Bros., will release in March 2023.
