Prince Harry Is Excited To Take His Children To The Invictus Games

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry, and Megan Markle inaugurated the 2022 edition of the ‘Invictus Games’ at The Hague, Netherlands. It is similar to the Paralympics, but for injured, sick, and wounded military people and war veterans.

The game had its inception in 2014 in London. Both Megan and Prince Harry made their relationship official at one of the games. Now, as both are proud parents of two lovely children, Prince Harry has expressed his interest to take their children to the Invictus Games.

Being parents can be tough, but the celebration of certain milestones in the process makes it easy. As Prince Harry is at The Hague to attend the Games, Megan Markle is taking care of their children. Prince Harry cannot be a prouder papa as their little one, Lilibet Diana took her first steps. Though he couldn’t witness the milestone, he said in an interview, “Her current priorities are trying to keep up with her brother; she took her first steps just a few days ago.”

Prince Harry is already warming up his son, Archie, as he has introduced him to the Invictus Games. He couldn’t wait to take his children to the games. The Duke of Sussex has shown a video of one of the games and Archie is keen about it. He said, “I showed Archie a video of wheelchair basketball and rugby from the Invictus Games in Sydney, and he absolutely loved it.” The aim to show him was not just to show the resilience of the contenders, but to have an unadulterated reaction to it.

Harry continued, “I showed him how some were missing legs and explained that some had invisible injuries, too. Not because he asked, but because I wanted to tell him. Kids understand so much, and to see it through his eyes was amazing because it’s so unfiltered and honest.” During the interview, Prince Harry also discussed the career alternatives that Archie is considering. He said, “When I talk to my son Archie about what he wants to be when he grows up, some days it’s an astronaut, other days it’s a pilot- a helicopter pilot obviously- or Kwazii from Octonauts.”

But as a parent, all he wants his son to do is build a good character, irrespective of his career choice. Harry expressed, “But what I remind him is that no matter what you want to be when you grow up, it’s your character that matters most, and nothing would make his mum and me prouder than to see him have the character of what we see before us today.”

Since the advent of the Invictus Games, Prince Harry’s personal space has changed for good. Fatherhood has added an “emotional layer.” He acknowledged the sacrifices that the family of military personnel and the personnel themselves make. His tenure in the army for 10 years also played a significant role.

He said, “When I was in the Army, I promised myself I would be out before having a wife and kids because I couldn’t imagine the heartache of being apart for so long during deployment, the risk of possibly getting injured, and the reality that my family’s lives could be changed forever if that happened.”

Another crucial role that Invictus Games played in his life is the blossoming of Megan Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship. They made their relationship official in 2017 during the Toronto edition of the Games. Prince Harry feels secure with the Invictus community.

He added, “The Toronto Games were our first time out and about publicly in an official way. We were dating at the time, so it was a lot to take in, but fortunately, we were with the perfect community for that.”

He continued, “Now, five years later, here we are in The Hague at the fifth Invictus Games, as parents of two, and living in the U.S. I had always wanted to share these incredible moments with someone special, and to have Meg by my side means everything.”

Invictus Games began after two years of hiatus due to the pandemic in The Hague, Netherlands on April 16th, 2022, and will end on April 22nd, 2022. During Saturday’s opening ceremony, Prince Harry expressed reassurance to the Ukrainian team as their country is tackling Russia.

He said, “We stand with you. The world is united with you. And still, you deserve more. I hope that these events, this event, creates the opportunity … of how we as a global community can better show up for you.”
