Robert Pattinson has finally explained what he’s been doing in the years between ‘The Batman‘ and its sequel. Turns out the answer is pretty simple. He just kept saying yes to other movies.
Talking to GQ alongside ‘The Odyssey‘ co-stars Matt Damon and Tom Holland, Pattinson explained how he ended up with one of the busiest schedules in Hollywood while ‘The Batman: Part II‘ sat stuck in development. “I’m like, ‘Well, I’ll do another movie in between,’” he said about the delays. He admitted things got a little out of hand though. “I ended up doing f—ing a lot of movies.”

The numbers prove he’s not exaggerating. Since finishing his first outing as Bruce Wayne in 2022, Pattinson has piled up an impressive list of work, including ‘Mickey 17,’ ‘Die My Love,’ ‘The Drama,‘ ‘The Odyssey,’ ‘Primetime,’ ‘Dune: Part Three‘ and ‘Here Comes the Flood.’ He also lent his voice to the English version of the Studio Ghibli film ‘The Boy and the Heron.‘ That adds up to eight projects packed into the gap between Batman movies, based on a recent profile that tracked just how full his plate has been.
This isn’t the first time he’s joked about the long wait either. Back in March, while doing press for ‘Mickey 17‘ with co-star Naomi Ackie for Hero Magazine, someone asked him straight up if he’d be back in the cape anytime soon. “I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f—ing old Batman by the sequel,” he said. Ackie tried to argue that 38 isn’t exactly old, but Pattinson wasn’t budging, though he did add that even though he feels older, he actually feels healthier than ever.
‘The Batman Part II’ Release Date Delays Explained
Getting the sequel made hasn’t been easy. ‘The Batman: Part II‘ was first supposed to come out in October 2025, then got pushed to 2026 and 2027, and now sits at February 2028. Director Matt Reeves has been working through drafts with returning writer Peter Craig. DC Studios execs have said before that a finished script hadn’t been handed in yet, though they described what they’d seen so far as promising.

Even with all the delays, there are signs things might finally be moving. Recent reports say Reeves has signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros. and is deep into writing the next script, with Pattinson still locked in to return. Colin Farrell is expected back as Oswald Cobblepot, continuing his story from the HBO series ‘The Penguin,’ and Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright are both set to return as Alfred and Commissioner Gordon.
How The Long Wait Shaped Robert Pattinson’s Career
For Pattinson, the long break has clearly worked out in his favor. Instead of waiting around, he built up one of the most varied résumés out there, jumping from something as big as ‘The Odyssey,’ where he plays the villain Antinous, to smaller, weirder projects closer to the kind of arthouse work that first made his name after ‘Twilight.‘
Whether ‘The Batman: Part II‘ actually lands in 2028 or gets pushed back again, Pattinson seems to have figured out a pretty good way to fill the time. And in the meantime, audiences have had plenty of new performances to keep them busy from one of the busiest actors working right now.
