Kim Kardashian is an American celebrity, model, media personality, and entrepreneur who rose to prominence with ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians.’ She is never far from drama and controversies always seem to follow her. Earlier this year, Kim turned many heads by wearing Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe’s iconic gown to the greatest night in fashion – the Met Gala.
Many social media users spotted differences in the dress after Kim wore it and accused her of “destroying” the gorgeous dress, while others pointed out how she never deserved to wear it in the first place.

Did Kim Kardashian Damage Marilyn Monroe’s Gown?
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! paid $4.8 million for the garment in 2016. They were chastised for allowing Kim to wear the crystal-encrusted Jean Louis gown. Marilyn Monroe wore it to sing “Happy Birthday” to JFK in 1962.
On Sunday, June 12, photographer ChadMichael Morrisette paid a visit to the Ripley’s Hollywood location. He noted the damage to the garment and posted photos of it on The Marilyn Monroe Collection’s Instagram page. The dress appeared to have considerable damage in the photographs, with “missing crystals and some left hanging by a thread,” according to a report.
The Marilyn Monroe Collection aimed displeasure at Ripley for allowing the dress to be worn on the red carpet. The online reaction was instantly directed toward Kim and her staff for the damages.

Ripley Issues Statement After Backlash
Ripley issued a statement indicating that they tried to safeguard the garment after Kim wore it. “We basically had many conversations with Kim and her team and put a lot of requirements in place with security and with the handling of the dress,” Amanda Joiner, vice president of licensing and publishing at Ripley’s told The Daily Beast.
“The dress was never with Kim alone. It was always with Ripley’s representative. We always ensured that at any time we felt that the dress was in danger of ripping or we felt uncomfortable about anything. We always had the ability to be able to say we not were going to continue with this,” she added.
Last month, the dress’s creator, famed designer Bob Mackie, claimed it was a “big mistake” referring to Kim wearing it to the Met Gala with her boyfriend Pete Davidson.
Kim sparked another controversy regarding the dress. She boldly claimed that she had reduced 16 pounds in just three weeks to wear the outfit.
