After the intense battle episode of HBO series ‘House Of The Dragon‘, the latest episode is out, bringing to us the repercussions of the Battle of Rook’s Rest. The episode shows that although the Greens bagged another victory, King’s Landing is not celebrating.
This is because King Aegon II Targaryen is not at all looking up. Although he survived, he is brutally injured, making it uncertain whether he will live. Amid the uncertainties and fans’ concerns over his fate, actor Tom Glynn-Carney has opened up about his character’s wounds and Aemond’s betrayal. Here’s what he said.
Tom Glynn-Carney Talks About Aegon’s Wounds And The Future Of His Character
After being barbequed by Aemond and Vhagar, both Aegon and Sunfyre suffered fatal wounds. His armor melted into his skin and his bones shattered, and it is uncertain whether he will live. In a recent interview with Variety, Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays Aegon II on the show, opened up about the uncertain future of his character.
To create the horrible wounds, the make-up team had to use extensive makeup and prosthetics for Aegon’s appearance. Glynn-Carney reveals how difficult it was as a process. “The testing stage was long, and took a while to nail what we were gonna go for. Lots of different versions. The one we settled on was gnarly, to say the least,” he said.
Tom Glynn-Carney also shared what the future held for the broken king. “I did a lot of research into how intense heat and burns can affect your vocal folds, and just completely decimate them,” Glynn-Carney revealed when asked about having a new voice for Aegon when he will be able to speak.
He continued, “Obviously I couldn’t do that to myself, so I had to find a way to replicate it. It was something that I had to definitely consider going into this new stage of Aegon.” He added, “He has to feel changed, like he’s shifted. And I hope that reads eventually.”

Tom Glynn-Carney Talks About Aemond’s Betrayal
In the battle of Rook’s Rest, Aemond does not hesitate to open fire on his brother and his dragon while aiming for his enemy, Rhaenys and Meleys. Tom Glynn-Carney opens up about his interpretation of the scene when Aemond is seen sheathing his sword after Criston Cole approaches him. Both the instances make it feel like Aemond was determined to get Aegon killed.
“That’s for the audience to decide. I can’t comment on that. I don’t want to tell people what to think. That’s up for grabs,” Glynn-Carney said about whether Aemond did it on purpose. Glynn-Carney referred to season one where Aegon does not want to be king but Aemond brings him back forcefully and says, “I think that’s where that idea at the start of Season 2 was born, where Aegon is talking about how Aemond’s as loyal as a dog and will attack enemies on command and knows his place within the realm.”
However, he also added, “But that coin can flip at any moment. We’re all dancing on a knife’s edge, and all it takes is one little push from one side.” It seems Aemond’s loyalty should not be taken for granted.
Talking about the same, Glynn-Carney said, “With the volatility that runs in Targaryen blood, there’s always potential for betrayal. But then again, was it intentional? Who the hell knows?”
