There have been many celebrity feuds in the history of Hollywood but there are some pop wars that deserve to be put in books. The 2000s were the years of wild celebrity drama and wouldn’t you know about the iconic diss track streak of Eminem and Mariah Carey?
The feud, reminiscent of a Shakespearean drama with a pop twist, has been playing out on the public stage for over two decades. So, what’s the deal with rap god Eminem and Christmas queen Mariah’s epic clash of tunes?

The Cause Of The Mariah Carey And Eminem Feud
The year was 2001, and the airwaves were buzzing with speculation about the alleged romance of Mariah Carey and Eminem. It all started when Eminem claimed in one of his tracks that he shared a brief fling with the pop diva which she denied.
The diss track streak started with Slim Shady’s 2002 track ‘Superman’ where he rapped, “What you trying be? My new wife? / What, you Mariah? Fly through twice.”
It kept on as he name-dropped the popstar again in another track titled ‘When the Music Stop’. The shady lyrics went like, “What the f–k you take me for, a joke? You smoking crack? ‘Fore I do that, I’d beg Mariah to take me back.”
In a classic diva move, Carey responded with her song ‘Clown’ from the ‘Charmbracelet’ album in 2002. The song went like, “You should’ve never intimated we were lovers/ When you know very well we never even touched each other.” The lyrics took subtle jabs at Eminem, once again denying any romantic involvement.
Eminem’s Graphic Digs At Carey
The public was hooked, and the Mariah-Eminem feud became one of the juiciest stories of the time as the ‘Stan’ rapper decided to take matters over pg. 13. In his 2006 track ‘Jimmy Crack Corn’ the rap god wrote, “Meanwhile, your minds on us, like mine’s on Mariah/ And y’all is just like her, you’re all f**king liars/ But I’ll just keep f**king you like I f**ked her/ Right in the a** with K-Y, yes, sir!”
Despite the graphic and vulgar claims the pop sensation maintained her silence but the rap star just couldn’t help himself. He further went on to include Mariah’s then-husband Nick Cannon in his shady lyrics as his 2009 track ‘Bagpipes from Baghdad’ said, “Nick Cannon better back the f*** up/I’m not playin’, I want her back, you punk … I mean, I really want you bad, you c***/Nick, you had your fun, I’ve come to kick you in your sack of junk.”
Now this douce move deserved a clap back and the queen released her iconic hit ‘Obsessed’ featuring lyrics like “Why’re you so obsessed with me?” A line that is still making rounds around trends.
In response to Mariah’s hit Em, fired back with ‘The Warning’ in which he aired the dirty laundry rapping, “Oh, gee, is that supposed to be me? In the video with the goatee? Wow Mariah, I didn’t expect you to go b**** out. B****, shut the f*** up before I put all them phone calls out you made to my house when you was wildin’ out before Nick, when you was on my d*** and give you something to smile about.”

The Iconic Feud’s Current Status
Over the years both the stars laid down their lyrical weapons as throughout the last decade they barely mentioned each other. The embers of the iconic clash may not burn as brightly as they once did, but the fire hasn’t entirely gone out.
Mariah Carey, with her trademark elegance, has mostly taken the high road in recent years. She’s been coy in interviews, acknowledging the past drama but not necessarily fanning the flames.
In true Mariah fashion, she’s hinted at the absurdity of the feud and embraced an ‘I’m too fabulous for this’ attitude. During a discussion of her book ‘The Meaning of Mariah Carey’ with Vulture, the singer was asked if the fans would get more on the iconic drama in the book.
The Christmas queen answered saying, “There are some songs that I can sing in response to that, but I will not do it. If somebody or something didn’t pertain to the actual meaning of Mariah Carey, as is the title, then they aren’t in the book.”
On the other hand, Eminem is still a little ‘Obsessed’ as his 2020 track ‘Lord Above’ with Fat Joe mentions the singer again. “I know me and Mariah didn’t end on a high note / But that other dude’s whipped — that p—y got him neutered”.
The Mariah Carey and Eminem feud is a tale of love gone wrong. Whatever may have gone wrong the feud fueled a decade’s worth of iconic hits that fans are still in love with.
